Full-time: Darmstadt 0-0 Mainz

The two sides could not be separated at the Merck-Stadion am Böllenfalltor as they played out a goalless draw. There were occasionally openings for both teams, but the relegation rivals each too make do with a share of the spoils that sees Die Lillien remain one point and one position above the 16th-places Nullfünfer.

Hajou's view on Mainz

In the absence of head coach Torsten Lieberknecht (pictured r.) due to personal reasons, assistant Ovid Hajou (l.) spoke at Thursday's press conference: "We're facing a good Bundesliga club in Mainz, who've finished in the safety of midtable in the last two years. This season things haven't quite gone as they'd imagined. The win last weekend against Leipzig will have filled them with renewed confidence. We're expecting a team that plays with a lot of intensity. We've analysed their weaknesses and will draw some conclusions."

Siewert's view on Darmstadt

"It'll be heated - we have to accept that. Darmstadt are direct in getting forward. It'll be about every centimetre. We'll need the same energy, attitude and intensity as we had against Leipzig. I'm trying to lead by example there."

More struggles

Mainz have not won any of their last nine Bundesliga games away from home.

Struggles

Darmstadt have lost their last three Bundesliga games and their seven defeats from 10 games is as many as they suffered across the entirety of their promotion-winning season last year. Mainz, meanwhile, were 14 games without a win before getting up and running on Matchday 10.

Watch: Mainz 2-0 RB Leipzig - last time out

Lee Jae-sung and Leandro Barreiro goals stunned Leipzig in Jan Siewert's first game in charge of Mainz, who celebrated their first Bundesliga win of 2023/24.

The lay of the land

This fixture already looks like a relegation six-pointer with hosts Darmstadt a point and two places better off than second-bottom Mainz. A win for either side would be significant, while a draw wouldn't help either team too much.
