The Allianz Arena is a sea of red and white as the teams prepare to take to the pitch. Union have picked up just one point from their previous four visits here, but will be fresh after over a week off.

The Berlin club have never beaten Bayern. What's more, the record champions have not suffered back-to-back defeats since November-December 2019, when they went down to Gladbach and Leverkusen.

New signing Chris Bedia's on the bench, with Benedict Hollerbach and Kevin Volland the front two. Christopher Trimmel comes in on the right-hand side for Josip Juranović, with Robin Gosens returning on the opposite flank. Lucas Tousart is preferred to Brenden Aaronson in midfield.

For Bayern, Noussair Mazraoui and Minjae Kim are representing Morocco at the AFCON and South Korea at the Asian Cup respectively, while Serge Gnabry has not yet fully recovered from the muscular injury that has kept him out since the end of last year. Tuchel still has a host of options at his disposal, though.

Head coach Bjelica does not have much to worry about in terms of absences. Aïssa Laïdouni is currently competing at the Africa Cup of Nations with Tunisia, making him unavailable, while captain Rani Khedira may be unavailable due to a calf problem. Otherwise, however, there is a full squad to choose from. New signing Chris Bedia may even make his debut, although it would be surprising to see him start.

Kevin Volland has two Bundesliga goals since his move to the Stadion an der Alten Försterei, but it was his strike for Hoffenheim against the Rekordmeister way back in 2015 that has gone down in Bundesliga history. His effort after nine seconds is the joint-fast ever the German top flight has ever seen.

Thomas Tuchel's men are used to leading the way in the German top flight, but they are having to chase league-leaders Bayer Leverkusen at the moment. The loss to Bremen prevented them from reducing the seven-point gap and, while three points here would see them gain some ground, they have a battle on their hands given Leverkusen are still unbeaten in all competitions. Anything other than a win for Tuchel and Co. would put his side under significant pressure.

It was a difficult start to the season for Union, who sat bottom of the table after 11 games having lost 9 in a row. That led to the sacking of head coach Urs Fischer, a club legend, but replacement Nenad Bjelica has steadied the ship. From the five Bundesliga games he has presided over, the side from the capital have picked up 8 points, losing just once. As such, they are now three points above the relegation zone with two games in hand over 17th-placed Cologne.

Bayern and Union have met eight times since the latter were promoted to the Bundesliga in 2019. The visitors are still without a win against their illustrious opponents, although they have managed three draws along the way. They were beaten 3-0 in their last game against Die Roten at the Allianz Arena, a result they will be eager to improve upon.
