Watch: Malen hails Dortmund's "quality players"

camera-photo

Full-time: Cologne 0-4 Dortmund

That's back-to-back victories with an aggregate score of 7-0 to start the year for BVB. They ran away with this one in the end, despite being put under earlier pressure by hosts Cologne. A Donyell Malen double and goals from Niklas Füllkrug (from the penalty spot) and Youssoufa Moukoko had the visitors celebrating in front of the travelling fans at the final whistle. Special praise is also due to loan signings Jadon Sancho and Ian Maatsen, who both shone.

Moukoko once more

It's a fourth for BVB. Another fine move ends with subs Reyna freeing Bynoe-Gittens. His cross to the far post is angled in by Moukoko, who also scored after coming on as a replacement last weekend.

Off the post

It looks like Füllkrug is going to be pulled up for a foul but play is allowed to continue and Maina smashes a superb shot over the diving Kobel and against the upright! What's worse for the hosts is that Rasmus Carstensen is there to pick up the loose ball but he can only skew wide with the goal at his mercy. A let off for BVB.

Billy-Goats go close

Suddenly Cologne are in! Jan Thielmann latches onto the through ball and only has Kobel to beat. The keeper makes a super stop while Thielmann can only poke wide from a tight angle with his follow up. Big chance.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
The away fans are making plenty of noise now as they watch their side rack up the chances. Cologne are by no means out of this, however. Timo Schultz's side are playing some tidy stuff in the final third, but do noticeably lack a cutting edge right now.

Almost 2-0

BVB should probably be two up here. Super work from Meunier as he exchanges passes with Malen before entering the area and crossing right in front of Schwäbe. Füllkrug is there but a combination of Timo Hübers and his keeper mean the big Germany international is denied a goal.

Standings tell a tale

We're not long away from the start of what is a pretty huge game for both of these sides, particularly when you look at the table. Although BVB won last weekend, Edin Terzic's side have dropped nine of the last 15 possible points and are currently fifth, 15 points off leaders Bayer Leverkusen. Cologne, meanwhile, are second from bottom with just two wins all campaign. What a difference a victory would make to either side here.

Ljubičić's Cologne role

FCK's top scorer Davie Selke is sidelined with an injury, meaning Dejan Ljubičić replaces the birthday boy up top. Elsewhere, Timo Schultz goes with the remaining 10 players that began last weekend's 1-1 draw against Heidenheim.

It's Sancho time!

There's a second, first start for Jadon Sancho at BVB following his return to the club on loan from Manchester United. The English attacker replaces his compatriot Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who drops to the bench. With Emre Can out with a knock, meanwhile, Niklas Süle steps into the starting XI for the visitors.

Brandt watch

Borussia's brilliant blonde attacker was on the scoresheet again last weekend, finding the target for the sixth time this season as BVB beat Darmstadt. That brought the 27-year-old's Bundesliga goal involvements up to 13 for the campaign [seven assists], meaning the Germany international will need to be closely watched by Cologne today.

BVB's results conundrum

Interestingly, Dortmund have taken a 1-0 lead in each of their last three guest games in Cologne, but the Black-and-Yellows failed to win any of those contests. Visiting coach Terzic, meanwhile, has never won a game at the home of today's hosts: one draw, one defeat.

Schultz's view on Dortmund

"We'll be facing a team that have a lot of pace out wide and are strong in one-on-one situations. We had a lot of openings against Heidenheim but didn't finish things off as we'd hoped to. That's something we need to work on."
camera-photo

Terzić's view of Cologne

"Cologne are an awkward opponent. They've always played well at home with their fans behind them, especially against teams in the top third of the table. They'll have to shuffle things around due to injuries, so it's not entirely clear how they'll go into the game, but we know that they'll play to win, that they'll be aggressive. It'll be an exciting task for us."

Dortmund double act

Sancho and Marco Reus combined for their 14th goal in BVB's win in Darmstadt, where both had come off the bench. That means Dortmund have eight goals from substitutes this season, while Cologne have none.
