Full-time: Bochum 1-0 Stuttgart

Bochum made it six straight home games unbeaten thanks to Matúš Bero’s first Bundesliga goal early in the second half, which had been delayed due to safety issues inside the stadium, to move up to 12th in the table. Stuttgart tried to force an equaliser but came unstuck against Manuel Riemann as VfB suffered back-to-back defeats to start 2024 and are now at risk of slipping out of the top three.

Half-time: Bochum 0-0 Stuttgart

A game that Stuttgart have very much had under control and also created the better chances, but no goals as yet. It’s been the hard-fought encounter you’d expect, with a number of tasty tackles.

Couple of cautions

Karazor goes in hard on Osterhage before Bernardo catches Leweling in the centre circle. A fifth caution of the season for both and they'll miss next week at home to Leipzig and away at Dortmund respectively.

Letsch's view on Stuttgart

"There are a few opponents that I personally haven't been able to beat yet. VfB are one of them. I’m looking to change that now. You can hear it in my accent, I come from the area. We believe in ourselves and have self-confidence, especially here at home."

Hoeneß's view on Bochum

"I'm expecting them to go on the front foot with their fans behind them. That's part of their DNA and it's what Thomas Letsch demands of them. We'll need to be ready for that."

Watch: Stuttgart 5-0 Bochum

Stuttgart's sensational first half of the season got off to a flier with a five-goal thumping of Bochum in August. Serhou Guirassy scored the first two goals of a staggering run, with Silas also netting a brace. Stuttgart will be without both players for the return leg, however, as they are currently at the African Cup of Nations.
