Full-time: Mainz 1-0 Augsburg
Mainz did all of the hard work in the first half, with the only goal of the game and two shots against the woodwork – including a penalty. They retreated a little in the second 45 minutes, preserving a precious three points and withstanding a late Augsburg onslaught which could not find an equaliser. A winning start to life as Mainz coach for Bo Henriksen, and a result which takes them to within a point of the relegation play-off position.

Half-time: Mainz 1-0 Augsburg
A deserved lead for Mainz, who came to life as the half drew to a close and - after hitting the bar - took the lead, though they may live to regret not making it two with that penalty miss with the last kick of the half.
