Full-time: Eintracht Frankfurt 2-2 Wolfsburg

Frankfurt claimed a late point at home to Wolfsburg thanks to a 92nd-minute goal from former Wolf Omar Marmoush, teed up by substitute Timothy Chandler in his first appearance of the season. The visitors flew out the traps and were ahead after two minutes thanks to Maxence Lacroix heading home at the far post. The lighting start to proceedings continued with the hosts levelling inside quarter of an hour through Philipp Max. Kevin Behrens’ first goal in green saw the Wolves retake the lead, one they looked like holding onto until Marmoush’s dramatic late leveller.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
xG suggests that Wolfsburg have sharp finishing to thank for striking twice - and that Frankfurt haven't created too many quality chances.

How things stand

Our first game on Sunday has the potential to impact things at both ends of the table. Hosts Eintracht saw RB Leipzig drop points last night and, currently sitting sixth, they could reduce the gap to Leipzig in fifth to four points. As for the visitors, they sit 14th and have a seven-point buffer to the bottom three. Victory will give them further breathing space, anything else could see them end the weekend fourth-bottom.
camera-photo

Toppmöller on Wolfsburg

"Wolfsburg have made the most intensive runs in the Bundesliga, but we're also way up there. Therefore, I expect a very intense game, but in the end you never know how a game will turn out."
camera-photo

Kovac on Eintracht

"We know how difficult it is to play in Frankfurt [but] I also know that Wolfsburg have performed very well against Eintracht in the past. I hope that we can continue to do so. We have to use to our advantage the fact that we didn't play during the week."

Frankfurt team news

In Freiburg, on-loan striker Saša Kalajdžić suffered a cruciate ligament tear that will keep him out until the end of the season - he may have already played his last game for the club considering he is only at the club on a temporary basis. Midfielder Hugo Larsson is also on the sidelines for this match, albeit with a less serious issue as his thigh problem should only keep him out until April.
camera-photo

Wolfsburg team news

Kovač will be without the services of Mattias Svanberg and Rogério for the visit to Frankfurt, while Tiago Tomás could miss a fourth consecutive league game as he struggles with an elbow injury. Otherwise, he will have all of his key players at his disposal.

Head-to-head

Frankfurt have picked up just one win in their last seven meetings with Wolfsburg, losing four and drawing two. Their solitary triumph came in April 2021, when they edged a seven-goal thriller 4-3. Niko Kovač's side have also prevailed on their last two visits to the Deutsche Bank Park, and they will be eager to make it a hat-trick here.

Marmoush Frankfurt's danger man

Since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, Omar Marmoush has been involved in all four of Frankfurt's Bundesliga goals (2 goals, 2 assists). That takes his season tally to nine strikes and five assists.
