Full-time: BVB 0-1 Stuttgart

Serhou Guirassy's 24th Bundesliga goal of the season spoiled the party for the Signal Iduna Park's 50th birthday and pushed Stuttgart level on points with Bayern Munich in the standings. Dortmund had their chances to equalise, especially when Nico Schlotterbeck skied the ball from a yard out, but VfB held on to claim a significant scalp as Dortmund slip out of the top four.

No go, Sancho

The ball breaks for Sancho, who fires it down Nübel's throat. That might just be that for the hosts.

Guirassy miss

The Stuttgart striker should have finished it. Silas plays Guirassy in and the forward goes for power as opposed to placement. The ball is skied. At the other end, Haller's header is saved handily enough by Nübel.

Guirassy's goal is looking like being the deciding one here in this game. The Guinea international has now scored in three games against BVB this season, twice in the league and once more in the DFB Cup.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
It's been a fascinating battle thus far, with Dortmund looking slightly the more likely to score the game's opener right now.

The England winger dazzles down the right and pings a pass across the face. There's nobody there for BVB. Moments later, Sabitzer sends a bouncing shot into the arms of Nübel.

Second on the line?

This match was billed at Dortmund and Stuttgart's fight for the top four, but with Bayern Munich's stunning 3-2 defeat to Heidenheim there's even more at stake. Stuttgart could go level on points with the record champions with a win today.

Stuttgart's big loss

A yellow card in the third minute of stoppage time last time out against Heidenheim rules out key Stuttgart defender Anton. Karazor comes in as his replacement and will have a big task on his hands.

More on those teams

BVB make two changes to the side that started in last weekend's Der Klassiker triumph against Bayern. Marcel Sabitzer returns from suspension to take over from Felix Nmecha while goalkeeper Gregor Kobel is fit again and resumes duties ahead of Alexander Meyer. VfB are also showing two changes today, with Jamie Leweling and Atakan Karazor coming in for former BVB man Mahmoud Dahoud (who drops to the bench) and the suspended Waldemar Anton.

VfB's Mittelstädt on a high

Maximilian Mittelstädt has been blazing a trail at VfB Stuttgart and is now doing the same with Germany too. The full-back - who boasts six goal involvements in 25 Bundesliga appearances so far this season - scored a sensational first goal for Germany in what was only his second international cap during the recent international break. BVB will be more than a little wary of the 27-year-old this weekend.

Visitors on a roll

Stuttgart have won seven of their last nine, including four in a row on the road. Five successive away wins in the Bundesliga would be a first. However, they've only won one of their last 14 league games in Dortmund (5-1, 2020/21).
