Full-time: Frankfurt 1-1 Bremen

Perhaps a fair result on balance, with both teams having their opportunities. It was Veljkovic who put Werder ahead in the second half before Stage was sent off on review. Tuta then levelled immediately after before he was also dismissed to leave both teams with 10 men. It’s an extra point for both causes. Frankfurt were going to stay in sixth regardless of this result, while Bremen remain in mid-table, 11 points behind Eintracht and 11 above the drop zone.

Tuta off!

And now there's parity in numbers too as Tuta catches Agu on the heel. He's initially shown a second yellow, but the referee is again summoned over to the monitor. He rescinds the yellow and upgrades his decision to a straight red. The goalscorer has to go with his second dismissal of this campaign.

Tuta knows he can't keep up as Bremen look to counter so pulls out a bodycheck and accepts his first yellow card of the season, shortly after scoring his first goal of 2023/24.

Frankfurt level!

Lovely goal all round. Pacho with a peach of a diagonal ball from deep. Tuta peels off his marker in the box and loops his header over Zetterer to restore parity for the 11 men of Eintracht.

Stage off!

Another twist in this game as referee Hartmann is summoned over to the monitor to review a challenge by the Werder midfielder. It's high, just below the knee of Bahoya, and the referee has no doubt in showing the Dane a straight red.

Götze nods over

We know he's capable of brilliant things and has scored a header this season, but the 2014 World Cup winner doesn't get this header right as he leaps and puts his attempt off target.
58'

Calm from Tuta

Werder come forward at pace and Weiser digs out a cross. Tuta races back into the box and coolly chests the ball down to Trapp to collect while running towards his own goal. Cool as you like from the Brazilian.
55'

VAR check

Trapp doesn't cover himself in glory punching a free-kick high into the air in his box. Veljković and Pacho both go for the ball and the ball strikes an arm - in fact both of them - as they tussle for it. It's checked by VAR but play is quickly waved on.

A mistimed tackle from the Frenchman as he scythes down Agu on the run deep into the Frankfurt half.

A corner late in the half for Frankfurt. Good jump and header from Tuta, but he plants it straight into the arms of Zetterer.

A tough one for the Egyptian as he opens his right boot to meet a low cross from the left. It's too close to Zetterer but easily could've been the opener.

Super run

Dina Ebimbe holds off Agu as he bursts forward up the right. He drives into the box and is sandwiched by two defenders. Referee Hartmann waves away any claims and points for a goal-kick.

Nobody on the end

First foray forward from the visitors as Agu swings in a cross from the left. It goes over everyone and through to Weiser on the opposite side. He goes for a cross as well. Again it misses everyone in the middle.

Good pressing from Knauff and he wins the ball off Pieper. Marmoush can't get a shot away but he knocks it back to Max, who shifts it onto his stronger left peg. Powerful but off target from 15 yards.

United Frankfurt, United Europe

Club captain Trapp is doing his bit to highlight the importance of European unity and integration, in keeping with the 'Eintracht' ('United') in 'Eintracht Frankfurt'.

Nick Woltemade on his way

The Bremen striker drops to the bench today, having this week agreed a deal to join Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart in the summer. The 22-year-old is yet to score in 34 Bundesliga appearances for the club he joined in 2010, aged eight.

Who is Nnamdi Collins?

It's a fair question! The 20-year-old central defender is a product of the Dortmund youth system, and winner of the U19s Bundesliga and regional youth league with his boyhood club. Since moving to Eintracht last summer, he's played 13 times for the reserves in the fourth tier, whilst being an unused sub in three Bundesliga matches.

The Euro race

If Leverkusen win the DFB Cup next month, the team that finishes seventh will go into the Europa Conference League play-offs. That's currently Augsburg, though Bremen are only six points further back. Sixth (Frankfurt, as things stand) would then qualify for the Europa League groups.

Ellyes Skhiri is a late withdrawal for Frankfurt, forcing Dino Toppmöller into a reshuffle. Tuta moves into midfield, with Nnamdi Collins debuting in defence. Philipp Max is preferred to Niels Nkounkou at left-back, while Fares Chaïbi returns in place of the injured Hugo Ekitiké in attack. As for Bremen, defender Amos Pieper and midfielders Jens Stage and Senne Lynen are recalled.

Toppmöller on Werder

“They have a lot of quality in their ranks. It’s rarely dull when Bremen play, so it could be a spectacle. If you give them space, they have good switches of play and they’re dynamic going forward. We need good aggressiveness in the way we close down and in defending one-two moves."
