Both sides have had a busy summer, with Dortmund welcoming Serhou Guirassy, Yan Couto, Waldemar Anton, Maximilian Beier and Pascal Groß. Frankfurt signed Hugo Ekitiké permanently from PSG after impressing on loan, as well as Can Uzun, Rasmus Kristensen, Arthur Theate and Oscar Höjlund.

The first step

These two sides finished one place and 13 points apart last season. Frankfurt's 6th place finish was a positive end to the season but it did also give this talented squad space to improve. They start their season away to Dortmund, who won't have been happy with their 5th place finish last season. The introduction of Nuri Sahin as head coach will make this season that bit more exciting, as Dortmund turn over a new page.

Frankfurt also through

Eintracht weren't at their fluid best in Monday's first-round tie against Bundesliga 2 side Eintracht Braunschweig but eventually advanced in comfortable fashion with a 4-1 win spearheaded by Ekitiké's two goals and assist.

Watch out for BVB's kids...

Julian Duranville and Jaime Gittens (no longer Bynoe-Gittens) are both coming off impressive pre-season campaigns and will be vying for a space on the wing. If neither book a starting spot, they could well cause all kinds of problems off the bench.

Winning start for Dortmund

BVB's competitive season got underway in the DFB Cup and they came away with a simple 4-1 win over Phönix Lübeck. Anton got his first goal for the club, while Brandt, Can and Duranville were also on the scoresheet.

The tale of pre-season

BVB didn't have the best start to the summer with a draw against Aue and defeat to Pathum United during their tour of Thailand. However, they quickly picked things up and ended strongly with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa. Frankfurt, meanwhile, spent some time in the US, and ended with four wins from five matches.

Frankfurt busy too...

The away side have similarly flexed their scouting muscles. They won the race for Can Uzun from Nuremburg and also added exciting teenagers Oscar Højlund and Krisztián Lisztes. Hugo Ekitiké and Robin Koch also join permanently after impressive seasons on loan.

Five new mega arrivals

BVB made up for their losses by instantly bringing in Stuttgart duo Serhou Guirassy and Waldemar Anton. Pascal Groß followed from Brighton and then Yan Couto from Manchester City. Later in the window, last season's top scorer Niclas Füllkrug headed to West Ham, but fans were delighted to see the club act swiftly by replacing him up front with Maximilian Beier.

A huge summer of change at Dortmund

While it was known for a while that club legend Marco Reus would be leaving this summer, a single blow became a triple one when Mats Hummels followed him out the door along with head coach Edin Terzić. However, BVB have been hard at work making moves after Nuri Şahin stepped up from assistant to head coach...

The last match between the two teams, back in March, saw former BVB star Mario Götze open the scoring before Dortmund stormed back to win at home.

Dortmund haven't lost the fixture since 2021, seven games ago, and they've won five out of the six matches since, including a 3-1 home win last season.
