Full-time: Wolfsburg 1-0 Union

Ridle Baku was the matchwinner for Wolfsburg as he found the bottom-left corner from the edge of the box to secure the Wolves' first home league win this season. It was a spirited second-half performance for Union, but their late pressure wasn't enough for them to take anything away from the Volkswagen Arena. Meanwhile, Wolfsburg's unbeaten run in the league extends to four matches.

Long-range effort

Bénes sends a curling effort from outside the box towards goal, but the unsighted Grebara did well to parry the effort wide of the goal.

Ouch!

Özcan's foot is trodden on as he tries to block Jordan's shot. Nothing comes from the striker's effort.

Nearly there

Wolfsburg survive a spell of Union corners and manage to get the ball into the Union half for a moment. Hasenhüttl will be able to taste a first home league win, but they're not quite there yet!

Fighting to get level

Trimmel clips a cross into the box which is required to be headed behind for a corner. Union are giving it their all in the final minutes here!

Fresh legs

Hasenhüttl adds some energy to his midfield in the form of Gerhardt and Özcan. If his team can establish midfield control in the last ten minutes or so, they can be confident of sealing all three points.

Can Union find a response?

Union have been better with the ball in this second half, but now find themselves a goal behind with a quarter of an hour to play. Will they still be able to take something from this game?
74'

Jordan denied

Trimmel crosses in towards the attacker, who cleverly leans back to get a shot away, forcing a fine stop from Grabara.

Baku finds the breakthrough!

Dardai flicks it back towards the edge of the box, before Baku steps onto the ball and sends it into the bottom-left corner with a powerful left-footed effort. Wolfsburg lead!

Kemlein curls wide

The midfielder steps up and tries to whip it into the top-right corner, but he doesn't quite get enough bend on it and the effort ultimately misses the target.
69'

Free-kick in a promising position

Jordan draws a foul out of Arnold, and the referee awards a free-kick to the visitors. Union will have the option to shoot or cross from this particular dead-ball scenario.
68'

There for the taking

Changes have been made, but the game is following the same pattern we have seen all afternoon. Who is going to be brave and try and decide the game for themselves in the final 25 minutes?
62'

Denied, but wouldn't have counted

Rønnow comes out on top in a one-on-one situation against Tomás, who was clean through on the Union goal. However, if the Wolfsburg attacker had scored, it would have been chalked off due to Tomás being stood in an offside position when played the ball.
61'

Good chance goes begging

Kemlein curls it wide of the target from outside of the box after the ball was laid off to him by Jordan. In a game which has been bereft of chances, this will go down as one of the best opportunities so far, and it has passed the visitors by.
60'

Union pressure

Wolfsburg do well to get in the way of all Union crosses and shots coming in. Kemlein eventually gets an effort away at Grabara's goal, but it is easy pickings for the 'keeper.
56'

Hopefully not a bad omen

No goals were scored in the second half when Wolfsburg and Union met in the league last season. With the score still at 0-0 as we approach the 60-minute mark, a second-half goal would certainly help bring this game to life!
51'

Who will provide the magic?

The second half has started in the same conservative fashion as the first. Will one of the players currently on the pitch create that decisive moment, or will the coaches have to look to the bench for inspiration?
46'

Double change

Bo Svensson brings on Rothe and Hollerbach to try and change the dynamic of the match. The away side have kicked things off here for the second half!

Half-time: Wolfsburg 0-0 Union

It's all square at the break at the Volkswagen Arena. Clear-cut chances lacked in the first 45, with Union compact at the back and Wolfsburg unable to break down the capital-city side, who lost Diogo Leite early on due to injury. All to play for in the second half!

The centre-back is booked on his 346th Bundesliga appearance after clattering into Tomás.

Two more to play

There will be two minutes of added time at the end of the first half.
44'

Curled over

Amoura tried his luck from the edge of the box following a corner, but the curled right-footed shot sailed over the target.
43'

Determined play

Fischer breaks through a couple of tackles down the right flank and fights to win a corner for his side.
39'

Side netting

Baku charges down the right wing before taking aim, but the effort only finds the outside of the frame.
38'

Fouls breaking up play

A lot of the game is taking place in midfield at the moment, with fouls slowing down the pace of the first half.
33'

Dangerous free-kick

A good cross into the left by Arnold is spilled by the Union 'keeper, and there's a bit of pinball in the area before the away side eventually clear.
31'

Fancy footwork

Vertessen beats his man with a nice piece of skill, but as he charges towards the Wolfsburg area, he is crowded out by defenders and is dispossessed.

Finish lacking

Some intricate play from Wolfsburg around the penalty area results in the ball being at Tomás' feet, who lines up a left-footed shot. However, the effort is too weak and central, posing no threat to Rønnow in goal.
23'

Latest corner for Wolfsburg

Fischer drives down the right flank before trying to pick out Tomás with a cross, but an Union defender gets in between to clear it for another corner.
20'

Blushes spared

'Keeper Grabara almost got caught in possession by Jordan far out from his penalty area, but fortunately for him, the offside flag was up against the Union striker.
19'

Textbook Union

The visitors are happy for their hosts to have the ball in their own half, opting to remain compact in their defensive shape and ready to launch a counter.
15'

Wimmer cautioned

Sprinting back after Wolfsburg lose the ball in midfield, Wimmer barges into Jordan, bringing the counter to a halt but receiving a yellow card for his troubles.

The Wolves with the lion's share of the ball

The home side have seen more of the ball in the opening exchanges. Next for Wolfsburg will be to convert this possession into some good chances.

Leite down

After sliding in, the Union defender looks to be in some pain, and the medical team is on the pitch immediately.
7'

Jordan misjudges it

The striker meets the Union free-kick into the box, but it comes off his shoulder rather than his head. The effort does take a deflection and go out for a corner, though.

First corner for the home side

Robin Skov intecepts a pass in behind the Union defence, but he can only clear it behind for a corner.

A familiar face

Kevin Behrens joined Wolfsburg from Union Berlin last winter, after making 75 appearances and scoring 14 goals for the capital-city side. Despite being only named as a sub will he haunt his former employers in Wolfsburg colours off the bench today?

More on those teams

Ralph Hasenhüttl makes one change to the side that began the win in Heidenheim, as Tiago Tomás, who scored Wolfsburg's third last time out, comes in for Yannick Gerhardt. Meanwhile, Bo Svensson has brought two new players into the Union attack, with Janik Haberer and Jordan starting ahead of Woo-Yeong Jeong and Benedict Hollerbach.

Hasenhüttl's view on Union

“They’ve gone back to being the Union we saw a couple of years ago. A very compact side that doesn’t allow their opponents many chances, aggressive in defence, but well-drilled in attack. They’re dangerous on the counter and are dominant at set-pieces, therefore they’ve done well so far this season. Bo Svensson has done a really good job of stabilising the team.”

Svensson's view on Wolfsburg

“It will be a tough task in Wolfsburg on Saturday. They’ve had a difficult run of fixtures at the start of the season, but they’ve got a lot of individual quality in their squad. Both the coaching staff and the players are looking forward to the game. If we can bring our ‘A’ game, then it’ll be difficult for our opponents, so that’s the first thing we’re thinking about.”
