Full-time: Union Berlin 1-1 Bochum

Although it ended strangely, this was a entertaining match as Bochum, reduced to ten men early, took the lead and then prevented a dominant Union side from adding to their equaliser with some dogged defending. A point won for the visitors, who need whatever they can get, while hosts Union were clearly hoping for better.

We're back under way... sort of

It seems the two sides have made an agreement that neither side will look to score as they play out the final minutes of added time.

Bochum are back

Bochum re-take the field with centre-forward Hofmann kitted out to replace the injured Drewes in goal. As Bochum had made all their substitutions before the incident, they can't bring on another keeper and an outfield player is their only option between the sticks.

Bochum still absent

If we re-start, there will still be four or five minutes left to play.

Drewes in the wars

Drewes takes his time before a goal kick and the referee shows him the yellow card. As he is about to take the kick, the Bochum keeper is hit in the head by something small from the stands; he receives medical attention.

Half-time: Union Berlin 1-1 Bochum

After an early red card for Bochum's Miyoshi, the visitors took advantage of a Union Berlin push to take the lead through Sissoko. Union Berlin hit back with Hollerbach's precise finish and pushed hard for the lead before half-time, but without success. Everything still to play for in the second half!

+ 4

Double chance

A ball played from the right finds Rothe on the left, who shoots to the near post, but Drewes is vigilant and parries. Union retain possession, and in the end Doekhi shoots. The ball again narrowly misses, this time whizzing by the top left-hand corner.

Jeong looking lively

After a superb dribble to create some space on the right, the Korean sent in a dangerous cross for Skarke, who went close to scoring a first-minute opener.

Miyoshi is heading for the ball but clearly kicks Schäfer in the shin with his open sole. Petersen is in a good position and shows the Japanese forward a straight red card.
12'

Reflex save from Rønnow

Bero finds Broschinski, who pulls the trigger directly. Vogt slightly deflects the ball, making the shot even more dangerous, but Rønnow manages to dive and safely scoop up the ball!
9'

No finish

Skov wins the ball off his opponent on the right, runs towards the byline and lifts the ball into the centre. The Union players play the ball out of the visitors' box themselves via several passes, and no danger arises.
7'

Counter-attack cut short

Bochum look to play the ball quickly, but the referee blows his whistle again after Sissoko pushes Jeong.
5'

Bochum look to build

But Union are pressing high up the pitch. Broschinski commits an offensive foul and the refferee whistles the attack to a halt.

Three corners in quick succession

All three are harmless, but Bochum remain in possession.

キックオフ

Just minutes to go!

Can Union stop their skid and get a first win seven? Or will Bochum break their duck and grab a first win of the season? Let's find out...
camera-photo

Goals at a premium

Although Union sit six places above bottom club Bochum, they have created only ten more chances on goal (54) than their Matchday 14 visitors (44). So, while this will doubtless be a hard-fought encounter as Union look to clamber their way back into the top half of the table and Bochum battle it out for a first win of the season, goals will likely be hard to come by.

More on those teams

Following dental surgery and the subsequent enforced break, defensive lynchpin Kevin Vogt returns to the Union starting XI, with Leopold Querfeld moving to the bench. This is the Berliners' only change after their 3-2 defeat at Stuttgart on Matchday 13. Meanwhile Bochum boss Hecking has also made just the one change, with Moritz Broschinski starting in place of Philipp Hofmann.

Union starting XI

Rønnow - Doekhi, Vogt, Leite - Skov, Schäfer, Khedira (c), Rothe - Jeong, Skarke, Hollerbach

Union subs

Schwolow, Querfeld, Roussillon, Trimmel, Haberer, Bénes, Kemlein, Vertessen, Jordan

Bochum starting XI

Drewes - Oermann, Ordets, Bernardo - Passlack, Bero, Sissoko, Wittek (c) - Miyoshi, Broschinski, Holtmann

Bochum subs

Horn, Medić, Loosli, Daschner, Losilla, de Wit, Pannewig, Boadu, Hofmann

Working on it

Bochum have conceded only five goals in their four matches under Dieter Hecking, an average of almost two fewer per game than in the previous season. Meanwhile, Union scored as many goals (two) in Stuttgart last time out as they did in their previous six competitive matches combined.
camera-photo

Encouraging

Bochum's last Bundesliga win was on 5 May this year - against Union at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei (4-3). VfL have not lost to Union Berlin in four games (three wins, one draw) - a longer unbeaten streak than against any other current Bundesliga club.

Concerning

VfL Bochum have not won in their last 15 Bundesliga games and have thus equalled the club's unenviable record from the 1992/93 season.
camera-photo

When will the turnaround come?

With 3-2 their defeat to Stuttgart last time out, Union Berlin are on a run of three straight defeats - a first in the Bundesliga this season. Die Eisernen are now winless in six Bundesliga games and, including the cup defeat at the hands of third-division Bielefeld, they have not won in seven competitive games.

Work rate

Union and Bochum have clocked the lowest possession percentages in the Bundesliga this season, but both teams are among the most combative in the top flight. For these sides, football is more about working than playing.
camera-photo

Dieter Hecking on facing Union

"Union are known for being very compact and giving the opposition few opportunities. They are one of the best teams when they have the ball and play intensely. They are very quick up front. We have to be very focused."
camera-photo

Bo Svensson on facing Bochum

"They have only taken one point recently, but their performances have been very solid. They have definitely changed. They have good strikers, a lot of tempo and a determined team."
