Full-time: Frankfurt 1-3 Mainz

What a result for Mainz, following up their win over leaders Bayern with another victory at third-placed Frankfurt. And they did it with 10 men for well over an hour, taking advantage of some Eintracht mistakes, starting with the Santos own goal before Nebel’s brace. Kristensen’s header for the hosts proved nothing more than a consolation as they huffed and puffed but were unable to get any closer to the 05ers, who get their first win in this fixture for over four years and move up to fifth for the time being.

Brief stoppage

Mainz's Bell is down after a collision at a corner. Club doctors are on to check him over, but that might be that for the big centre-back. The visitors carrying on with nine men for the moment.

Zentner again

Same players, slightly different angle as Koch meets a header in a more central position. Zentner is again equal to it, pushing the ball wide diving to his left.

Uzun denied!

Frankfurt carve their way through the Mainz defence up the left. Uzun does well to get a shot away from around 12 yards, but Zentner is equal to it. His parry goes straight at one of his own defenders, though, who's relieved that the ball bounces wide.

Half-time: Frankfurt 0-2 Mainz

A look at the stats and you’d think it’s been all Frankfurt – and it has. But a comical own goal put the visitors ahead, and the visitors then doubled their lead through Nebel even after Amiri was sent off. A remarkable first half where the bottom line is that Mainz are in the box seat.

Nebel fires in second!

The 10 men double their advantage as Nebel latches onto the second ball after a long punt forward. He cuts into the middle on his left foot and lets fly. It takes a slight deflection off the chest of Koch, which does enough to wrongfoot Santos as the ball flies into the centre of the goal.

A gift for Mainz!

What a bizarre goal but Mainz won't care. Santos passes out to Skhiri, who's under pressure and ends up chipping the ball back to his keeper. The Brazilian panics and is unsure if he can use his hands running back towards his own goal. In the end the ball just bounces off the goalkeeper and in.

Good record with Santos

Eintracht have earned 10 of a possible 12 points from their four Bundesliga games with Kauã Santos in goal (three wins and the 3-3 draw with Bayern). The Brazilian has conceded six goals in those matches.
camera-photo

No Jonny

It's the first time this season that Mainz are without Jonathan Burkardt in the Bundesliga. In the seven games where their 10-goal top scorer has netted, they have earned 16 points. In the seven where he's not scored, it's only six points.
camera-photo

More on those teams

The big news for the hosts is that captain and goalkeeper Kevin Trapp is ill, so Kauã Santos deputises in net today. That's one of five changes for Frankfurt, including the introduction of Oscar Højlund for his first start. As for Mainz, Armindo Sieb replaces the injured Jonathan Burkardt as he did last week against Bayern, while Danny da Costa returns for Moritz Jenz. Anthony Caci will drop back into the back three.

Dino Toppmöller on facing Mainz

"They're a solid team with good and clear movement patterns. It'll be very intense - that's what characterises them. They're good at getting their opponents to contest a lot of duels, they're very proactive, play lots of one-twos and are always alert to the second balls, which they're always very determined to win. They put lots of crosses into the box. It will be a nice challenge to play against them."
camera-photo

Bo Henriksen on facing Frankfurt

"Tactically, they do a lot of things like Wolfsburg and Bayern. They build up with four players at the back, Marmoush usually moves in the half-space. We know that we have to defend very well tomorrow. They're very good at switching and if you let them get into their game. They also have two fast forwards. But our own performance is more important than our opponents."
