Leipzig blew a three-goal lead away to the Bundesliga's bottom club, days after letting slip a 1-0 advantage in defeat to VfB Stuttgart. They slipped to fifth as a result, albeit only one point outside the top four.
Florian Wirtz scored two and made another as Leverkusen took the Rhine derby spoils. It was their eighth successive league win and keeps them four points behind leaders Bayern Munich after 18 rounds of fixtures.
