Full-time: Bremen 0-0 Dortmund

The first time in 56 meetings in Bremen that this game ends without a goal. Both teams had opportunities, and Nico Schlotterbeck's red card with 10 minutes to go looked to have opened the door for Werder, but they were unable to make the man advantage count.

Malen!

Suddenly it's Dortmund as Adeyemi chases down a long ball. It eventually comes to Malen via Groß. He goes hard and low from right of goal. Zetterer just about manages to hold on.

Will we see a goal?

None of the 55 Bundesliga meetings between these teams in Bremen had previously ended 0-0.
82'

Werner goes for it

The Bremen boss sends on fresh legs in attack as Topp, making his senior debut at the Weserstadion after leaving the academy to join Schalke before his summer return, is on for Njinmah.
79'

Huge opportunity for Bremen

It's been 10 years since Werder last won a home game against Dortmund. They will hardly have a better chance to put that run behind them today.
77'

BVB change

Can looks to have dropped back into defence, with Nmecha now on to fill his position in central midfield.
75'

What now from Dortmund?

Sahin had already tried to shuffle things around at the back earlier but now has to make another decision on what to do in defence.
camera-photo

Schlotterbeck off!

Already on a yellow, the defender slides in on Njinmah running at goal and has to make his way down the tunnel in the corner of the Weserstadion. The second red card of his Bundesliga career.
71'

Sabitzer

We've seen the Austrian hit them from here before, but this 20-yard effort is an easy hold for Zetterer dead centre.

Offside

Beier goes down in the box as he tries to go past Friedl. There's in intake of breath around the Weserstadion until the assistant raises his flag for offside.
camera-photo

Schlotterbeck!

Again it's a Groß free-kick to the far post that causes Bremen all sorts of problems. Schlotterbeck's the one there this time and forces a very good low save out of Zetterer from close range. The ball's then loose before Werder can smash it clear.
59'

Adeyemi!

Finally Zetterer is forced into action as Adeyemi turns on the halfway line and then races through the middle. Thumping left-footed effort from a bit over 20 yards out, with the Bremen keeper flying to his left to push it wide.
camera-photo

Double change

Bit of a reshuffle at the back for Dortmund, with Schlotterbeck racing over to the touchline to talk to Sahin about exactly what he wants with Bensebaini on for Süle. And fresh legs up front with the Bundesliga's fastest-ever player Adeyemi on for Gittens, who's had a quiet day.
56'

Borussia yet to test Zetterer

The Bremen keeper did make a save off Beier in the first half, but it was pulled back for offside.

Njinmah in the way

Stage gets up high to meet a Ducksch corner, but Njinmah gets in the way of the shot and turns it wide. Whistle then goes for a foul in the build-up anyway.
53'

Schlotterbeck also cautioned

He's a bit late on the slide and now joins the rest of Dortmund back three/four on a yellow card.
52'

Centurion

This is actually Ducksch's 100th Bundesliga appearance. He made his first six in the black and yellow of Dortmund after coming through the youth system there.
camera-photo

Now Ducksch

Another attempt from an ex-BVB man in green, but Ducksch's shot is also blocked behind as Werder race out of the blocks this half.
49'

Njinmah!

Agu gets past Ryerson this time after taking down a diagonal ball and darting into the box. He cuts back to Njinmah, but the ex-Dortmund forward's shot is deflected behind.
48'

Ryerson booked

Another BVB defender picks up as yellow as the Norwegian pulls back Agu.
46'

Back we come

No changes from either side as yet, with the Bundesliga's two current youngest coaches seemingly content with what they've seen so far.

Half-time: Bremen 0-0 Dortmund

Both teams have had chances in the first 45 minutes but never have managed to make any count. It's been very even at the Weserstadion. Can either side break the deadlock after the break?

Brandt!

Sabitzer slips in Ryerson down the right. The Norwegian goes for the low cutback with Brandt darting into the box. He gets on the end of it around 12 yards out but smacks his first-time shot wide.
43'

Ducksch!

Dortmund give the ball away and then fail to deal with a cross. It falls to Ducksch, but he hits his shot straight into the ground and up into the grateful arms of Kobel.
41'

Penalty shout

Njinmah slips in Ducksch into the box. He crosses, with Schlotterbeck sliding to cut it out. The ball strikes the defender's arm, but it was tucked into his chest, so referee Hartmann waves away any claims. Weiser is booked for his protests, though.
41'

Wide from Brandt

The Dortmund man was born in Bremen but never actually played for Werder. He picks up the ball in midfield and drives forward. His shot from the edge of the box is dragged wide, though.

Süle cautioned

Schlotterbeck hauls back Weiser but it's Süle who picks up a card for his protests. Two of Borussia's back three now on a yellow.
34'

Antonaldindo!

What a touch from the big central defender, who's still forward after that free-kick, takes down a high ball over the top before getting away a quick shot. It's dragged just wide, but it was all about the touch.
33'

Very nearly...

Another Groß set piece with a free-kick from wide on the left. It's Anton and Süle again at the back post who manage to force it back into the middle, but there's not a yellow shirt in sight as Werder hack it clear.

Anton in the book

First card of the game goes to the Dortmund defender for his second foul on Njinmah in quick succession.
26'

Another corner

Nothing fancy about this one as Brandt clips the ball straight into the box. Stark gets his head to it first.

Tight so far in Bremen

20'

Mismatch

It was almost comical at that corner seeing Niklas Süle, standing at some 6'4'', being marked by Romano Schmid, who is one of the shortest players in the Bundesliga at 5'5''.
20'

Another routine

Dortmund try something else off the training ground from the corner as it's knocked short to Groß before he crosses. Weiser manages to get his head on it first.
19'

Well worked

Free-kick for the visitors finds Anton running in at the far post. He heads it back across goal looking for the lurking Beier, but it's cleared by Stark for a corner.

Double chance!

Could easily be 1-0 to the hosts. Schmid runs onto a pass around the corner and smacks a shot from right of goal. Kobel parries but only into the path of Stage arriving from deep. The Dane goes for placement with the inside of his boot but puts it wide of the right post.
10'

Beier in...

Ball over the top from Brandt wide on the left. Beier is onto it and shoots low. Zetterer sticks out a leg to deny him before the assistant's flag also goes up.
7'

Fancy from Kobel

Brave, in fact, as he allows Schmid to charge him down before sidestepping the Bremen attacker.
4'

Front-foot Bremen

Perhaps surprisingly, it's Werder who are seeing the ball in these opening exchanges and looking to get forward, in particular through Weiser down the right.

A new Mané in town

There's a new face on the BVB bench and a new Mané in the Bundesliga as 19-year-old Filippo gets his first senior call-up for Dortmund. Like ex-Bayern forward Sadio, he's of Senegalese descent, but Borussia's youngster hails from Italy.

More on that Bremen team

Ole Werner makes two changes to the side that drew 2-2 at Augsburg last weekend, with Justin Njinmah and Anthony Jung brought in for and Milos Veljkovic. Striker Marvin Ducksch (pictured) makes his 100th career Bundesliga appearance today, while Oliver Burke is back in the Bremen squad (and on the bench) for the first time since 2022/23 after spending last season on loan to Birmingham City.

More on that Dortmund team

Jamie Gittens (pictured) is rewarded for his match-winning brace in Nuri Şahin's first Bundesliga match in charge of Dortmund against Frankfurt last week with a spot in the starting line-up today. Maximilian Beier also makes his debut in another change - with Adeyemi and Malen dropping to the bench.

Werner ahead of facing BVB

"They have brought in several strong players and I have noticed that they seem to have more quality and a better shape out on the pitch. It will be a tough challenge for us. (However), we have what it takes to compete against top teams. We need to be smart and take our chances. We know the quality that Dortmund have, which is why we will need to make sure to play to our strengths as well."
camera-photo

Şahin ahead of facing Bremen

"A team that’s well attuned, who have had the same coach for a long time and often play using a similar system. Bremen's processes are very distinct. No matter how the opponents play, they’re prepared for them. I expect opponents who intend to take all three points at their stadium."

Watch: Serhou Guirassy in training!

Dortmund's summer signing has trained with his new teammates for the first time in his recovery from a knee injury. Will the former Stuttgart striker have a part to play in Bremen?

History favours Dortmund

Bremen have lost six of their last seven Bundesliga meetings with Dortmund. The exception was their historic late comeback from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in Dortmund at the start of 2022/23.

Watch: Bremen 1-2 Dortmund - previous meeting

These sides last met in March, where Dortmund won 2-1 in Bremen in what was a tight game. Donyell Malen and Jadon Sancho put the away side two-nil up in the first half, giving Bremen plenty of work to do in the second-half. Justin Njinmah was the only scorer in the second-half as the home side looked to rescue a point, but they couldn't find the equaliser and Dortmund went home with all three points.

Tough test

Bremen face a difficult challenge against a Dortmund side who will be brimming with confidence after a win and a clean sheet against Frankfurt. The home side will look forward to being back at home after starting their season on the road and will hope to take all three points in front of their fans.

Watch: Augsburg 2-2 Werder Bremen highlights

Ole Werner's side come into this fixture having got a point on the board in their opening game away to Augsburg. Felix Agu opened the scoring for Werder before Augsburg cam from behind to lead 2-1, Justin Njinmah then equalised just before the hour mark to ensure a point for his side.

More Gittens goals?

While Nuri Sahin may not be too pleased with his side's first-half perfomance, he'll certainly be pleased with the final result. Now, Dortmund face Bremen where they'll look to build on their winning start, while rising star Gittens will be hoping to add to his goal tally again.
