Full-time St. Pauli 0-0 RB Leipzig

The points are shared here in St. Pauli. After an electric first half, the second half couldn't quite live up to the standard set. St. Pauli will be happy to take their first point of the season against what is strong opposition on paper, but they may rue their missed opportunities and feel that they could have taken all three.

Matchday climax

Matchday 4 culminates at the Millerntor-Stadion, where hosts St.Pauli welcome RB Leipzig. Both sides have contrasting goals this 2024/25 season, and as they battle to achieve them, we're surely in for what should be a compelling game in Hamburg.

Familiar faces

Since their last meeting a lot has changed for both sides, however, a few Leipzig faces still remain from that defeat back in 2016. Peter Gulácsi, Lukas Klostermann and Willi Orbán are all still important members of the Leipzig squad.

Previous meetings

These sides have only met four times, with Pauli winning three of those meetings. The most recent clash between the two was in the 2015/16 Bundesliga 2 season, where Pauli won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Marc Rzatkowski.

Rose's red bulls charging for glory

The away side have started the season strongly, winning two and drawing one of their opening three games. One of those two wins was a statement victory of Leverkusen, with the result ending a run of 35 games unbeaten for the reigning champions.

Tough start

The newly promoted side have lost their opening three games of the season, scoring just once while conceding six. Blessin will need to get his side clicking quickly if they are to stay in the division, with this being their first time back in the Bundesliga since 2010/11.

Alexander Blessin on facing Leipzig

"Leipzig have extreme quality in their team. We want to see every match as a highlight. We are just pleased that we have a home match again after two away matches, and we hope for our fans that we can take our first points. We know it won't be easy, but it's not impossible."
camera-photo

Marco Rose on facing St. Pauli

"Every team has earned the right to play in their respective league. They might not have any points yet, but they had a decent away performance at Union Berlin. They were the better team at home to Heidenheim and just didn't get the goals. They aren't happy to be on zero points, but they will try everything in front of their own fans on Sunday to get their first points."

A familiar face

Many in the Leipzig ranks, particularly the staff, will recognise the St Pauli coach: Alexander Blessin spent eight years as a youth team coach with Die Roten Bullen between 2012 and 2020.

A little history

They have previously faced off four times in BL2 though: Leipzig won the duo's first-ever competitive contest 4-1 in November 2014, but lost the next three meetings all 1-0 before being promoted to the Bundesliga at the end of the 2015/16 season.

First time for everything

These two have never met in the top flight, though will now meet three times this season as they will also face each other in the DFB Cup next month.
