Schöppner seals it!
Beck delivers an out-swinging corner from the right and Schöppner leaps above his marker to head past Zentner and surely put this game to bed.

And it's 10 against 10 for the final 10 minutes as referee Exner reviews Dorsch's challenge on Sano and upgrades the yellow to a red.

Bo goes for it
A triple change for the hosts as they try and get back into this with 15 minutes to go.
72'
Breunig!
Acrobatic effort from the sub as he gets on the end of Föhrenbach's cross with his back to goal. Not far wide.
68'
Couple of chances
Breunig is unselfish and lays the ball left to the arriving Föhrenbach. His rasping effort is parried by Zentner and falls to Wanner on the edge of the box, but the Mainz defence recover to get in a block.
66'
Breunig wide
The visitors haven't challenged much this half but the substitute gets a decent chance after a one-two with Pieringer sees him through, but the ex-Freiburg man curls his first-time effort wide from the edge of the box. He probably had more time than he thought there.
62'
Kohr in the book
A fourth caution of the campaign already for the Mainz man. He's very quickly approaching 100 career yellows in the Bundesliga with 92 now, which ranks him joint-fifth with Torsten Frings in the all-time standings.
60'
Better from Mainz
The 05ers throw some men forward and Lee wins a corner with a curling effort that deflects behind. Widmer is then just beaten to the corner.
59'
First blank under Bo?
Mainz last failed to score at home in a 1-0 loss to Bremen in February 2024. That was before Bon Henriksen took over.
57'
Kaufmann off
The Dane has been struggling with his shoulder since that encounter with Jenz and now makes way for Breunig.

Couple of cautions
Jenz shoves Kaufmann off the pitch and sees yellow. Heidenheim captain Mainka then protests a bit too much and is booked as well.
49'
Caci's effort
He curls the free-kick over the wall, which bounces very awkwardly just in front of Müller, but he had his body behind the shot as the ball rebounded off his chest and away.
48'
Traoré in the book
A push in the back of Lee as he ran at the defence earns him a card.
46'
Back under way
Mainz have a huddle out on the pitch before the action resumes. They need a big improvement this half if they're to fight back with 10 men.

Almost an own goal!
First we've really seen of Mainz going forward as they win a corner. It's swung in from the right, where Kaufmann ends up producing a diving header back towards his own goal. Luckily for him, goalkeeper Müller got his footwork right to knock it away.

Not a record you want
Hanche-Olsen's dismissal is the earliest by a Mainz player for two yellow cards in Bundesliga history. He beats the previous record set just last week by Nadiem Amiri after 35 minutes against Augsburg.

Mainz shuffle pack
Bo Henriksen needs to plug that gap in central defence so sacrifices the more attacking Hong for Bell.

Mainz down to 10!
The hosts are a goal and now a man down as Hanche-Olsen is shown a second yellow for colliding with Schöppner on the left of the penalty area. It's the Norwegian defender's first dismissal in his 36th Bundesliga game.

Off the post
The goalscorer comes close to a second with a low left-footed effort from right of centre. It strikes the base of the near post and behind to safety.

A talking to
Heidenheim have still got the host penned in and have another corner. It's delayed a couple of times, though, as the referee deals with some pushing and shoving in the box.
8'
Now Schöppner
Real pressure from the visitors as Schöppner meets the following corner from the right. This header's more central but still needs Zentner to turn it over the bar.
7'
Pieringer!
Lovely delivery from Dorsch from the ensuing free-kick. Pieringer is the man to get his head on the end of it, putting his effort back across goal and forcing a save from a full-stretch Zentner diving to his left.
6'
Early booking
Hanche-Olsen hauls down Kaufmann trying to burst through the centre and picks up the game's first card.
3'
Wanner drives forward
The Bayern loanee looks to move Heidenheim up the pitch for the first time down the left, but play is pulled back as the ball went out.

Under way
The hosts get us going in their red and white kits. Heidenheim are in their change blue strip.

Watch: Mainz players out for an inspection
Three alterations for Heidenheim
Frank Schmidt responds to last weekend's 3-0 loss at home to Freiburg with three changes. Lennard Maloney and Max Breunig drop to the bench, while Mathias Honsak misses out with a knee issue. In come summer signings Niklas Dorsch and Mikkel Kaufmann for their first starts of the campaign, as well as Jan Schöppner.
Two changes for Mainz
Bo Henriksen brings in two new faces from last week's 3-2 win in Augsburg as Jae-sung Lee and Silvan Widmer come in for the suspended Nadiem Amiri and Armindo Sieb, who is on the bench. It's captain Widmer's first start of the season.

Strong run of form
Mainz have lost just one of their previous 13 Bundesliga games, drawing six and winning as many. There is no reason for them to think that can't find success here, too.
Heidenheim have the upper hand
This is only the third time these two have met in a competitive game. Last term, Heidenheim picked up four points, meaning they are just the third team Mainz are yet to win against amongst the elite.
Among Germany's best
Burkardt has scored 11 Bundesliga goals so far this calendar year, including three this season. Among German nationals in the division, only Stuttgart counterpart Deniz Undav has hit more across the same period (12).
