Arp sees red
A second red card of the game and that may kill Kiel's chances of getting a point out of this. Arp fouls Vagnoman and is shown his second of yellow card, meaning both teams will play out the game with 10.

Off the post!
Führich's devilish free-kick from out on the left has Weiner scrambling and strikes the far post but falls to safety. Nearly a third out of nowhere.

Hope for Kiel!
Kiel have halved the deficit through Gigović. A superb header from Harres thunders off the bar and Gigović reacts quickest to fire past Nübel. Can they salvage a point?

Last throw of the dice
Kiel are going for it here, bringing on attacker Harres for defender Geschwill. It's a Bundesliga debut for Harres.

10 to go
Stuttgart have been resolute since going down to 10, with Kiel unable to find a way back into the game. Not long to go now.
70'
Two changes apiece
Both coaches reach into their reserves, with Roualt and Karazor on for Stuttgart, Puchacz and Machino on for Kiel.
66'
Stuttgart down to 10
Two yellow cards in the space of three minutes sees Chabot shown a red card. The second one is for his reaction to another foul, all very much unnecessary.
63'
Double change Stuttgart
That was Touré's last piece of action as he is replaced by Demirović. Führich also comes on, with Rieder making way,

Almost a howler
Leweling turns brilliantly and fires at goal from range, an effort that almost squeezes through Weiner and into the back of the net. The Kiel 'keeper manages to jump on the ball and spare his blushes, though.
58'
Second change for Kiel
Remberg replaces Knudsen in midfield for Kiel, with just over half an hour to go. Trailing by just the one goal, the visitors are still in this.

Vagnoman booked
Stuttgart are lucky here as Vagnoman gets himself caught in possession on the halfway line. Kiel are about to break with three-on-two but Vagnoman takes one for the team.
46'
Kiel change at half-time
Pichler has been replaced at the top end of the pitch by Skrzybski at the break. A little surprising in that Pichler was probably Kiel's biggest attacking threat in the first 45.

Wide from Stiller
Stuttgart turn the screw and almost have a second but Stiller can only jab wide from the penalty spot. Kiel looking to hang on until half-time now.

First sight of goal for Kiel
Pichler is played in nicely and manages to get away Kiel's first shot at goal but a superb block from Mittelstädt puts the ball behind from the corner. Much better from the away team.
38'
Rieder denied
What a save from Weiner. Kiel are carved open and Rieder cuts in from the right, onto his favoured left foot, and bends the ball towards the far corner only to see Weiner thrust out his right hand and tip the ball round the post.

First booking of the game
Schulz is the first to go into the referee's book. Things have settled down considerably since Stuttgart took the lead.
27'
Undav denied a second
The Germany international is one-on-one with Weiner but the Kiel 'keeper this time denies Undav. The flag goes up so it wouldn't have counted anyway, but that is another warning for the visitors.

Good save Weiner
A swerving, dipping effort from Rieder is tipped over the bar by Weiner. It was straight down the 'keeper's throat but the ball was moving all over the place. Solid save.

Bright start from Stuttgart
VfB are making the early running, with Leweling, Touré and, captain for the day, Undav all lively in attack. No clear cut chances of note thus far, however.

Stuttgart team news
Sebastian Hoeneß has the majority of his key players at his disposal for this clash, but Chris Führich must sit his out with his own groin issue. Justin Diehl, Luca Raimund, Leonidas Stergiou and Dan-Axel Zagadou will join him on the sidelines.
Kiel team news
Marcel Rapp will be without Carl Johansson, Andu Kelati and Colin Kleine-Beckel for the trip to Stuttgart. It remains to be seen whether Alexander Bernhardsson has recovered from a groin problem picked up in the 2-0 loss to Union Berlin in time for kick-off.

Tale of the tape
The sample size is admittedly small, but Kiel have the upper hand in meetings between the two teams, winning three of the four historical meetings. For context, the only other team Stuttgart have lost their first two competitive home games against is Bayern Munich.
A first time for everything
Kiel are the Bundesliga's 58th different participant, and Stuttgart will - after Saturday - have faced 57 of them. And there's more football nerdery for the pub quiz...this is the 970th different Bundesliga fixture in the league's history.
