Sebastian Hoeneß has the majority of his key players at his disposal for this clash, but Chris Führich must sit his out with his own groin issue. Justin Diehl, Luca Raimund, Leonidas Stergiou and Dan-Axel Zagadou will join him on the sidelines.

Marcel Rapp will be without Carl Johansson, Andu Kelati and Colin Kleine-Beckel for the trip to Stuttgart. It remains to be seen whether Alexander Bernhardsson has recovered from a groin problem picked up in the 2-0 loss to Union Berlin in time for kick-off.

Champions League triumph

After picking up one point from their first two fixtures back amongst Europe's elite, Stuttgart scored a last-gasp winner to leave Turin with all three points as they edged past Juventus 1-0. El-Bilal Touré was the hero, netting after Enzo Millot had missed a penalty.

Kiel finding their feet

It hasn't been the easiest transition for the Bundesliga's northern-most team - with two points from their opening seven matches, they have matched the worst record for a German top-flight debutant at this point of a term (Darmstadt, in 1978/79, also had two points).

Tale of the tape

The sample size is admittedly small, but Kiel have the upper hand in meetings between the two teams, winning three of the four historical meetings. For context, the only other team Stuttgart have lost their first two competitive home games against is Bayern Munich.
