Leipertz races into the Werder box, but flashes his shot from a tight angle across goal. The cross was perhaps the better option.

CAUTION O'CLOCK

Müller for time wasting, Kleindienst after a tangle with Agu. Heidenheim are losing their heads, when they really don't need to...

PICK THAT OUT!

Ducksch steps up to take the ensuing free-kick, whipping the ball over the Heidenheim wall and into the top corner. A special goal by Bremen's 16-goal top scorer. Squeaky bum time for the hosts...

BUSCH SENT OFF

Marnon Busch is shown a straight red card for a studs-up challenge on Woltemade. No complaints from the Heidenheim defender - that could have been nasty. Luckily, Woltemade is OK.

DUCKSCH OFF CUE

Wayward from Ducksch, who controls really nicely on the chest, only to send his 18-yard volley into row Z.

BREMEN SEARCHING

Füllkrug creates an opening with a smart piece of skill and pass into the channel, but Schmidt's low cross is blocked in the six-yard box and cleared.
78'

CHANGE UP TOP

Schimmer makes way to warm applause. Heidenheim's joint top scorer this season, Kleindienst, is on.
75'

POWER OF THE PUNCH

Schmidt launches a ball into the area, but Müller is out to punch clear ahead of Bittencourt. It's just not happening for Werder today.
73'

TABLE TALK

As things stand, Bremen are the third of the top three to drop points on Matchday 26. They're all locked on 48 points, separated by goal difference.
65'

ALMOST THREE!

Chance for a third Heidenheim goal, but Schöppner snatches at his shot from inside the box and blazes off target.
64'

HEIDENHEIM DOUBLE THEIR LEAD!

Oh, Werder! A failed attempt to play out from the back is punished emphatically. Kühlwetter collects Jung's errant pass and feeds the run of Schimmer, who slams beyond Pavlenka from inside the box. Werner's Werder heading for a first defeat...

PAVLENKA TO THE RESCUE!

And now it's Heidenheim's turn to attack. Jiri Pavlenka has to be alert to a Kühlwetter cross-shot. Soon after, he stands big to block a Schimmer hit with a firm right hand.

BREMEN KNOCKING AT THE DOOR

It's been all Werder since the restart, with Ducksch and Füllkrug very much involved.

TALKING TACTICS

With Mai going off and Rapp on, it looks like Werder have switched to a back four, with Weiser and Agu the full-backs.

CHANCES APLENTY

The crowd have certainly been entertained in that first half in Heidenheim, with chances at both ends of the field, yet it is the hosts who have the lead with that stunning strike from Kühlwetter.

MISSES A MARVIN TARGET

Marvin Ducksch has his fourth shot of the game, but he still cannot find the back of the net. A frustrating evening so far for Bremen's No7.

PICK THAT ONE OUT!

Kühlwetter curls in an unstoppable shot from long range to put the hosts in front. An amazing strike, and one that could not have been forecast with the way Bremen were attacking.

SET- PIECE SPECIALISTS

Heidenheim have just had their fourth corner, and went close to scoring. Nine of their goals this season have come from set-pieces, which is something Bremen will have to watch out for.

STUNNING SAVE!

Füllkrug once again brings the very best out of Müller, who makes a magnificent save to keep Heidenheim on terms.

NO MUCH AGU ABOUT NOTHING

That injury certainly looks serious for Friedl as he had to be helped off the field - certainly no exaggeration after the clash, as Agu takes his place.

FRIEDL INJURED

It looks like the Bremen defender is going to have to make an early exit, as he holds his left thigh with more than a grimace on his face.

NEXT CHANCE FOR BREMEN

Füllkrug sends in an angled drive that threatens to beat Müller inside his near post, but the Heidenheim goalkeeper gets his left leg to the ball and turns it behind for Bremen's first corner of the night.
17'

POST!

Leo Bittencourt delivers the next shot and this time Müller is beaten, but his right-hand post comes to his rescue - that's the closest so far to an opening goal.
15'

WEISER CLOSE!

Müller had to be at full stretch to turn that low drive from Weiser away. The guests are now starting to build up a head of steam.
14'

DOUBLE DUCKSCH

Both of Bremen's shots so far have come from Ducksch, and both have ended in the arms of Müller.

JUST A TOUCH NEEDED!

A corner comes in from the right and Hüsing flicks it on towards the far post where just a touch - any touch - is needed, but none is forthcoming!

LAME DUCKSCH LOB

Bremen's first chance falls at the feet of Ducksch, who manages to get in around the back of the Heidenheim defence, but his attempt to lob the keeper does not come off and, instead, he just helps the ball into his arms.

FIRST CHANCE FOR MOHR!

BIG SUPPORT

There is a considerable contingent of travelling fans in Heidenheim tonight, and they are making their voices heard. Bremen's recent form has sparked a wave of enthusiasm, and they will want to move three points clear at the top tonight.

THE UGLY DUCKLINGS

Asked to put a name to a phenomenal partnership that has delivered a combined 28 goals and 12 assists in just 19 games together this term, Bremen's formidable forwards jokingly agreed on the moniker, "the ugly ducklings." Yet theirs is a beautiful synergy that needs to be witnessed at first hand and one that has fans of the Die Grünweißen dreaming of a return to Germany's top flight after relegation last year.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

That victory for Bremen was the first meeting between these teams in Bundesliga 2, but they have faced off on four other occasions. Werder won 4-1 in the second round of the DFB Cup in 2018/19, exacting a measure of revenge for Heidenheim's 2-1 triumph in the first round of the cup in 2011. The sides also drew twice (0-0 and 2-2) in the promotion/relegation play-offs in July 2020, with Bremen narrowly avoiding relegation on the away goals rule.

WATCH: PREVIOUS MEETING: BREMEN 3-0 HEIDENHEIM

Second-half strikes from Marco Friedl and Marvin Ducksch, as well as a Denis Thomalla own goal, gave Bremen all three points when the teams last met at the beginning of October 2021. Check out the highlights right here!

TEAM NEWS - HEIDENHEIM

The good news for the hosts is that key players Patrick Mainka and Tim Kleindienst are back in the squad, although both begin on the bench here. As such, the only change to the team following last week's reverse in Darmstadt is Kevin Sessa coming into the side for Maurice Malone.

TEAM NEWS - BREMEN

Head coach Ole Werner has made two changes to his side following last week's win over Dresden. Captain Ömer Toprak is injured, so former Bayern Munich defender Lars Lukas Mai replaces him in defence. Elsewhere, Romano Schmidt returns to the starting line-up following suspension, replacing Niklas Schmidt.

CHANCE FOR BREMEN

Werder had a one-point lead at the Bundesliga 2 summit prior to this matchday, but draws for their closest pursuers Darmstadt and St. Pauli mean they good open up a three-point gap with victory here. However, Heidenheim are in seventh place, eight points off the top three, so are not out of the promotion hunt yet - especially as a morale-boosting win in this game good give them momentum going into the season finale.
