Full-time: Croatia 1-1 Italy

With almost the very last kick of the game, Mattia Zaccagni has sent Italy through at Croatia's expense. Luka Modrić's second-half strike looked to have been enough to take Croatia through, but Italy had the last word to advance as runners-up in Group B.

Half-time: Croatia 0-0 Italy

It's been a tale of two goalkeepers thus far, with Croatia's Livaković and Donnarumma of Italy both pulling off some solid stops to keep this Group B game scoreless.
Half-time
camera-photo

No way through

Italy have enjoyed 65 per cent possession and boast 10 attacks to Croatia's nine so far, but Spalletti's men have failed to find a breakthrough. Pellegrini is the latest man in blue to strike at goal. Livaković saves handily enough.
30'

Modrić inspires

Super build up from Croatia, who stretch Italy and get through on the right with their captain Modrić. The Real Madrid legend's low cross is beaten out by Donnarumma.
27'

Livaković Croatia's hero

Barella dinks a pass in for Bastoni who is all alone and powers a header at goal. The Italians are certain this is in but, somehow, Livaković pulls off a sensational save to parry the ball over. Incredible.
25'

Sučić booked

Luka Sučić fells Pellegrini and the Croatia man goes into the referee's notebook.

Big chance

Calafiori flights an inviting cross from the left. Retegui leaps and can only head against Gvardiol when well placed. Italy must settle for a corner but that move promised so much more.

Goal in Düsseldorf

News is filtering through that Spain have taken the lead against Albania in the group's other game. That won't affect either side here right now.

Tense encounter

Both sides are continuing to probe as each seeks to make a breakthrough here in Leipzig. It's been a touch nervy thus far.
10'

Pellegrini off target

Pellegrini heads well wide from Dimarco's cross from the left.
7'

Italy threaten

Di Lorenzo scampers down the right and seeks out Retegui with a ball into the centre. Šutalo hacks clear for Croatia.
4'

Sučić strikes first

RB Salzburg's Luka Sučić slams a wicked, left-footed shot at the target from outside the area which Donnarumma does well to tip behind with a flying stop. The fans liked that.
Kick-off!

Peeeep!

Croatia get us underway in Leipzig.

All set!

With both national anthems out of the way, we're ready for the on-field action at the Red Bull Arena.

Fratelli d'Italia

A rousing rendition of Fratelli d'Italia, as expected. Next up is Croatia's anthem, Lijepa naša domovino.

Teams out!

Both sets of players take to the pitch and we're all set for the national anthems ... Italy first

State of affairs

So, to recap, it's Spain - guaranteed as group winners - with six points in the standings, followed by Italy on three. Albania and Croatia are both on one point. Qualification behind the section leaders is very much up for grabs this evening.

Il capitano

Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma captains Italy tonight in what will be the custodian's 65th senior international cap.

Red Bull Arena resplendent

The home of RB Leipzig is quickly filling ahead of kick-off. There will be 41,600 fans inside when the referee's whistle signals the start of this Group B encounter. Expect plenty of noise.

Italy expects

The defending European champions can't go through to the tournament knockouts as group winners, now that Spain have achieved that with a game to spare. Their supporters will nonetheless drink to a Round of 16 appearance, no matter how their team achieve it.
camera-photo

Leipzig alive

The streets of Leipzig are filled with noise and colour as both sets of fans mingle downtown ahead of this evening's game.

Italy's lesson learned

Italy boss Luciano Spaletti says his players have learned from the disappointment of the recent loss against group rivals Spain and that the Azzurri would be looking to implement the lessons from that reverse against Croatia. "I wasn't pleased with the match against Spain, but we've analysed it, discussed it, and recognised that we took a step back compared to our previous games," the tactician explained. "Despite the pain, I expect that match to have taught us many lessons."
camera-photo

Kovačić determined

Croatia still have every opportunity of making it to the next round, but they will most likely need victory to achieve that feat. "We still have a chance to go through with a win, and our focus will be on that against Italy," Mateo Kovačić said, in quotes appearing on UEFA's official website. "We need to be at our very best and show that we can come out on top when we're up against it."

Tale of the tape

Italy have won just one of nine previous games against Croatia, with the latter side enjoying three victories. The teams have played out five draws.
camera-photo

Huge showdown

What a game this looks set to be, with both sides determined to take the points on offer. Italy are second in the Group B standings with three while Croatia have one, and so must win in Leipzig in order to have any hope of advancing to the knockouts.
