Full-time: Portugal 0-0 France (3-5 on penalties)

France have done it by finding perfection in the shootout. Felix is the man who will have plenty of sleepless nights, but in a game full of chances but low on quality, any of his teammates can feel just as guilty for not taking out one of the pre-tournament favourites.

End of extra time: Portugal 0-0 France

We're heading to penalties and it's probably what this game deserves. The match still could have gone either way in extra time but there just wasn't enough quality in front of goal. Costa and Maignan have had easy nights, but now it's time for them to show what they've got.
120'

That was the chance!

Portugal counter and Bernardo Silva is all alone, Mendes finds him and gives it back before Mendes sends a glorious chance into Maignan's gloves.

Barcola gets to work

With the game fizzling out Lyon youngster Barcola darts into the box and gets everything right apart from his near post finish.

Mbappe under ice

Kylian Mbappe is icing his broken nose on the bench, but as France's penalty taker, could the decision to take him off prove costly?
109'

Great chance for Felix!

It's more brilliant play from Conceição who dinks a wonderful cross to the far post and Felix meets it but puts it into the side netting.
106'

Back underway with two changes

Mbappe does in fact come off and is replaced by Bradley Barcola. Meanwhile Portugal bring on Joao Felix for Leão.
106'

Mbappe off?

It looks like the France captain's night may be over. His mask is off and he's heading to the bench.

Extra time kicks off and more than ever any goal is a potential matchwinner.

End of normal time: Portugal 0-0 France

The second half in Hamburg was one of big moments, big blocks and big misses. It really could have gone either way considering the quality of players that chances were falling to, but we need another 30 minutes to decide this one.

Iconic defending from Pepe

41-year-old Pepe is in a foot race with Marcus Thuram, stops him getting away, and then makes the tackle in the area. He gets up and celebrates some epic defending.

France spring forward and feed the ball back to Kante for a shot from range but it's easy for Costa to collect.

Ronaldo gets to take this one but can't get it over the wall.

PSG man Dembele has taken the game by the scruff of the neck since coming on and his latest heroics see him cut in from the right and curl a magical shot just wide.
71'

Wow that's the closest yet!

Camavinga, who's probably been the best player on the pitch, is found just outside the six yard box thanks to a piece of skill from Ousmane Dembele. He turns and shoots and it's agonisingly just wide of the post.

Kolo Muani exchanges passes with Kounde and he's through on goal. Dias flies in with an amazing block and the ball could go anywhere but it's wide. The game's really opening up now.
63'

MASSIVE chance for Vitinha

More Mendes brilliance and this time he finds the final ball, Vitinha just has to pick a corner but it's straight at Maignan.

More Camavinga brilliance

Leão starts an incredibly dangerous run from out wide and into France's six yard box. Camavinga tracks him all the way, though, and stops him getting a shot or pass away at the last second.
56'

Mbappe down

Ouch, Mbappe's interception saw the ball hit him right in the face. The striker already has a broken nose from the match against Austria and that one will hurt.
54'

Chaos in the France box

Bernardo Silva looks set for a great headed chance from a cross but Mbappe leaps in to cut out the danger and the ball's fired back in the box.

Half-time: Portugal 0-0 France

That certainly wasn't the most entertaining 45 minutes of Euro 2024, but both managers will likely be happy with their team's defending. A stodgy match in the middle of the park led to few chances, but Portugal still should have produced more given their number of set pieces.

Opponents decided

The winner of this match will face Spain in Munich in the semi-finals on July 9. Spain overcame hosts Germany in extra time as Mikel Merino bagged the decisive goal in a 2-1 victory.

Martinez on picking the same XI

"One of the reasons is that we want to give continuity. Keeping the partnerships is important. We are refreshed. After the four games, we've been very focused, the feeling in training has been very good. We want to play a good game in this quarter-final and be the best version of what we can be. We can improve what we've done, but we need to carry on the good things that we did."

Frankfurt inspired

Former Eintracht Frankfurt man Kolo Muani will certainly be one to watch tonight. The PSG forward has so far only been used as a substitute in three of France's four games, but in his last appearance he set up the winner as his shot deflected in off Jan Vertonghen to win the match.
camera-photo

Bundesliga interest

There are just two Bundesliga players to keep an eye out for in this one - Bayern Munich's Dayot Upamecano and Kingsley Coman who are lining up for France.
camera-photo

More on those teams

Portugal are unchanged from the side that struggled past Slovenia on penalties in the last 16, with Cristiano Ronaldo again leading the team out. France, meanwhile, have switched things up with two changes. Adrien Rabiot drops out for Eduardo Camavinga, while Randal Kolo Muani joins Kylian Mbappe up top in place of Marcus Thuram.

Watch: Hamburg stadium experience

The Volksparkstadion is ready to host a belter...

How they got here: Portugal

Talking of superstar captains, few compare to Portugal leader Cristiano Ronaldo. He was reduced to tears after missing a spot-kick in extra-time but then scored in the shootout as Portugal eventually saw off Slovenia on penalties in the last round. All eyes will again be on Ronaldo in Hamburg.
camera-photo

How they got here: France

A win and two draws in the group stages saw France finish second in Group D behind Austria, which set up a last-16 meeting with neighbours Belgium. A late Jan Vertonghen own-goal eventually saw France advance, meaning two of their just three goals in the competition thus far have been scored by opposition defenders. They will be looking to their mask-wearing, superstar skipper Kylian Mbappe - the only goalscorer in the squad thus far - to lead them into the semis.
