Dicey!
Hrádecký spills a loose ball under pressure from Guirassy, but the whistle blows for a foul against the Bayer stopper.

Tapsoba in the way!
It's that man again making an important block to deny Malen a shot at goal inside the Leverkusen box. He takes a stray leg for his troubles, winning a welcome spot of respite via a free-kick.

All or nothing
Defensive changes for Leverkusen, but an attacking one for BVB. This will be a nervy finale...
85'
Tapsoba does his job
The Leverkusen sentry rises highest in the six-yard box to clear a Brandt cross, with Guirassy lurking on his shoulder. Brilliant defending.
83'
Crucial clearance
Hincapié throws himself at a deep cross from Reyna to stop Malen making contact at the far post. He lands awkwardly, but is back on his feet as Brandt sends in another underwhelming corner.
82'
Disallowed goal!
Wirtz sweeps in from close range, but the flag had already gone up. The ball clearly went out of play before Terrier cut it back.
80'
Fresh legs
Şahin introduced Malen, Sabitzer and Reyna before the goal. Can they help rescue a result for the home side? It would be some turnaround...
80'
Scenes!
Dortmund are awarded a penalty upon VAR review, with Tapsoba adjudged to have palmed off Duranville with a hand to the face. Guirassy steps up to send the keeper the wrong way and pull BVB back to within one goal of the visitors.

Terrier on
The Frenchman, who has two goals in the Bundesliga since his summer move from Rennes, replaces Tella in the Bayer attack.
71'
Clock's ticking
Dortmund have around 20 minutes to preserve their unbeaten home run in this season's Bundesliga.
69'
Scuffed
Beier drives at the Leverkusen defence, but doesn't catch the ball cleanly as he goes to shoot and his 18-yard effort drifts harmlessly wide.
64'
First subs
Wirtz is on, perhaps surprisingly in place of two-goal striker Schick. BVB also make a change, with Duranville replacing the lively Adeyemi. Grimaldo whipped a shot just over before the changes - that was more like it from Alonso's team.
61'
Chance not taken!
Frimpong races away and crosses for Schick, whose first-time effort is kept out by the full-stretch Kobel. A bit more power and that would have been his hat-trick.
59'
Change afoot
Wirtz is getting ready to come on for the visitors, who've been doing a lot of chasing since the restart. The Germany international has seven goals and seven assists in the league so far this season.
54'
Decent strike
BVB continue to dictate the play as Adeyemi nestles a well-struck effort into the gloves of Hrádecký. Leverkusen need to ride this out.

Here we go again
Dortmund go straight on the attack to win a corner, but Brandt's cross doesn't beat the red shirts at the front post. No changes, by the way.

Another opening
Frimpong gets in behind Kabar once again, but the Dutchman's left-footed strike is too close to Kobel. Will Şahin shuffle his patchwork defence at the break?
42'
Hrádecký heroics
The Leverkusen captain shows tremendous reflexes to beat away Adeyemi's swerving drive. He then throws himself across his goal-line to shovel out Beier's follow-up attempt. Turns out there was an offside, but the Finn was not to know.

Over!
Frimpong takes advantage of a mistake by Kabar. He cuts inside of Lührs, but can't keep his 18-yard shot down. Schick was lurking in the middle and was perhaps the better option...
28'
What a save!
Hrádecký's going completely the wrong way as Guirassy's shot from the edge of the area takes a wicked deflection. It's creeping in under the bar, before Bayer's No.1 manages to claw the ball over the bar with his left hand. Sensational.

Schick double!
It's raining goals in the 2025 opener. Leverkusen work it really well from back to front. Frimpong's cross from the right exposes BVB's defensive frailties, and there's Schick with another perfect run and clinical finish from close range.

Gittens hits back for Dortmund!
Well, well. BVB halve the deficit! There's a stroke of luck as Andrich's attempt to cut out Couto's pass across the area redirects the ball to the back post. Gittens beats Hrádecký to the punch and coolly sneaks in his sixth Bundesliga goal of the season. Three goals in 12 minutes - what a start!
8'
Leverkusen double lead!
It gets worse for Dortmund as Schick adds a second, the Czech striker sliding in unmarked on the edge of the six-yard box to turn home Hincapié's teasing cross. That's 13 goals in his last 11 competitive games!

Danger man
The Dortmund fans roar their approval as Gittens runs at Mukiele and wins a corner with a shot that's deflected behind off the Frenchman. Brandt's resultant delivery comes to nothing, though.
3'
Tella breaks his duck
Surprisingly, that's the Leverkusen attacker's first Bundesliga goal of the season. He was also on target against Bayern in the DFB Cup last 16.
1'
Wow!
Nightmare start for Dortmund, who fall behind with just 25 seconds on the clock. The BVB defence lose possession after hesitantly playing the ball across their own box. Tapsoba wins the header and finds Tella for a thunderous rising strike past Kobel.

Under way!
The Bundesliga is back, after three weeks away. What a fixture to kick off 2025!
キックオフ
Minute's silence
Ahead of kick-off, both teams pay their respects to Wolfgang 'Teddy' de Beer, Dortmund's former goalkeeper and goalkeeping coach, who passed away unexpectedly on 30 December. There's a touching Tifo in the south terrace, too.
Atmosphere building
The Signal Iduna Park, which proudly boasts the highest average attendance so far this season with 81,365, is filling up nicely after those traffic-related delays. The rescheduled kick-off is now just under 15 minutes away.
In at the deep end
Teenager Kabar's made three substitute appearances in the Bundesliga since being promoted to the BVB first team in the summer. Lührs, who's three years older at 21, has been called on twice, also as a sub.
History favours Dortmund
Dortmund are unbeaten in their last four league meetings with Bayer (W2, D2), dating back to a 5-2 home loss on 6 February 2022 - Leverkusen's only win at the Signal Iduna Park in the last 10 years.
Table talk
Leverkusen will move to within a point of leaders Bayern - who go to Gladbach tomorrow - with a win. Victory for BVB, meanwhile, would take them third, overnight at least.
More on those teams
Dortmund's personnel issues mean first starts for defenders Almugera Kabar and Yannik Lührs, who've only made five Bundesliga appearances between them to date. Karim Adeyemi's back in the side, though, with Donyell Malen dropping out of the attack. Leverkusen spring a surprise by leaving Florian Wirtz on the bench. Jeremie Frimpong moves further forward, with Nordi Mukiele at wing-back. Robert Andrich is preferred to Exequiel Palacios in midfield.

Dilemma up top for Alonso
Bayer Leverkusen have both of their star centre-forwards available after the winter break. The question is, who will be given the nod here? While Victor Boniface started the season strongly, netting six goals, injury gave Patrik Schick the chance to impress. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands, scoring nine in just five matches, including four against Bochum.

Leverkusen love an away trip
Alonso's side are unbeaten in their last 24 consecutive Bundesliga away fixtures, which is the third-longest such streak in Bundesliga history. Their last defeat on the road came in May 2023 in Bochum.
No New Year's blues for Dortmund
BVB have an astonishing record in their first games of a new year, having won 15 and drawn five over the last 20 years. In fact, they have won each of their last six first matches after a winter break.

Chance to apply pressure
Leverkusen are currently just four points behind leaders Bayern in what has essentially become a two-horse title race, with third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt five adrift of the reigning champions. Should Xabi Alonso's side win here, they would close the gap at the top to just a single point.
