Full-time: Münster 0-1 Cologne

That will be a tough one to take for the Bundesliga newbies who started the game with a well-executed plan to comfortably keep Cologne at arm's length. Sadly for the hosts they didn't have enough quality to capitalise, and eventually it was Cologne whose quality shone through in their third-straight win.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
Münster were unlucky with the crossbar, but otherwise only managed to get one shot on target. Cologne goalkeeper Schwäbe is having a quiet evening.

Uth back in the squad

Mark Uth is back in the Cologne squad for the first time in more than three months. On 10 August in Elversberg, he had to be substituted off just six minutes after coming on due to adductor problems. Since then, he has only played twice for the reserve team in the regional league.

Another clean sheet?

Cologne's new (old) number one Marvin Schwäbe is the only goalkeeper who hasn't conceded yet.

Kick-off delayed by 15 minutes

The kick-off has been postponed by 15 minutes by the police due to the delayed arrival of FC fans travelling by train.

Preußen's attacking change

The hosts' starting eleven is different in just one position compared to the side that started the draw in Karlsruhe on the last matchday, Németh getting the nod ahead of Grodowski.

One change for Cologne

Compared to the last league match, there is one switch for the visitors. Thielmann is on the bench with Ljubicic given the nod in his stead. Waldschmidt occupies the vacant spot in attacking midfield.

Münster's starting XI

Schenk - ter Horst, Koulis, Frenkert, Kirkeskov - Hendrix, Preisinger - Bouchama, Mees, Makridis - Németh

Cologne's starting XI

Schwäbe - Pauli, Hübers, Heintz, Paqarada - Martel, Huseinbašić - Ljubicic, Waldschmidt, Maina - Lemperle

Struber's view on Münster

"Münster have a very compact team and one that is aware of its abilities. They create goal-scoring opportunities from set pieces, are versatile, have a special atmosphere at home and develop their power from that. We need to be clear that we need our physicality, our aggression and our mentality to take control of the match. We must bring our fighting spirit to the pitch, then I'm convinced that we will turn the game in our favour."

Preußen returnees

Münster can once again rely on Amenyido, Bazzoli, Kyerewaa and Németh.

Hildmann's view on Cologne

"Cologne are in good form having won their last three matches. They've slightly changed their system and are playing very offensively. We don't want to let that develop and we want to bring our cauldron of noise with us. We need to get into the challenges and put up a fight."

Downs on fire

Cologne with three consecutive victories

Effzeh recently bounced back after two defeats with a series of wins: recently a 1-0 against Fürth, previously another 1-0 away at Hertha, and before that a 3-0 in the DFB Cup against Bundesliga side Kiel.

Münster unbeaten in four matches

Preußen drew three times during this run, most recently 1-1 at KSC. Before that, they secured a 1-0 victory against Düsseldorf – proving Münster can handle top opponents.

Classic rivalry

Before the Bundesliga was founded, Preußen and Cologne regularly faced each other in the Oberliga.

No further matches

Since those encounters, the two traditional clubs have never met again in a competitive match, and they have never been drawn against each other in the DFB Cup.
camera-photo

What happened back then?

Cologne won both encounters back then: on matchday 8 at home 3-0 (goals: Drewes own goal, Overath, Müller) and on matchday 23 away 2-0 (Thielen brace).

First time in a long time

Preußen Münster and Colgone are playing in the same league for the first time in 61 years: in 1963/64, the two clubs were founding members of the Bundesliga - Cologne became champions and Münster were relegated as the second-to-last team and never promoted back to the Bundesliga.
