Full-time: Münster 2-1 Fürth

And that's the end! Münster prevail late in a hard-fought match. After a good first half from Fürth, in which Gießelmann scored from a set-piece, and a strong start to the second half, the Prussians increasingly took command towards the end. Mees became the match-winner in the second half, leaving the field with a brace of headers.

Münster's Lucky Punch?

Against Paderborn (3-3) and in Karlsruhe (1-1), Münster managed to equalise at the death, now, perhaps, they have themselves the winning goal.

Surely the winner!

Once again it's a free kick, but this time for the home side and it leads to success! Lorenz serves it up for Mees, who doesn't miss the chance to score his second header. Münster are back in front!

Dietz goes in too aggressively and sees yellow.

Schulze makes the save

A cross from the left reaches Németh, but his shot is not threatening enough and poses no problem for Schulze.
86'

No danger

But at least it's another attempt, even if it's not on target. After a corner from the left, Hrgota tries from distance, but it's well over the bar.
84'

Is there still a chance?

In the final minutes, the visitors' numerical disadvantage is becoming somewhat noticeable, yet they remain quite solid at the back. Is there still a possibility for Münster to turn things around?
81'

Siewert reacts immediately

As Münster are becoming more dangerous, the Cloverleaves coach brings on Michalski to help the defence.
80'

Nearly the lead!

At last - from Preußen's perspective - a Paetow long throw-in works! As often happens, it sails dangerously into the six-yard box, Bazzoli gets a free effort in front of Schulze, but doesn't connect with the ball properly.
79'

Good free-kick position

This time Klaus delivers the set-piece well towards the penalty spot. Srbeny gets a completely free header, but puts it too high. That had real potential.
77'

The goalscorer departs

Münz replaces him.
74'

Double substitution

Among others, Friðjónsson comes on - will he bring fresh impetus to Preußen's game?
73'

Németh under pressure

The Preußen striker has come under pressure ten times, but he has managed to wriggle free in 70 percent of the cases.
73'

Ball magnet Paetow

The ball keeps finding its way to him; he's had twice as many touches (86) as any other player on the pitch.
71'

Well over

The ball falls to Scherder's feet, but his attempt from a central position goes well over the crossbar.
70'

Gießelmann goes down

The goalscorer takes a cross attempt from Kinsombi to the ribs from point-blank range and goes down. However, not for long, as the match resumes.
69'

Lull in play

Münster are now holding onto the ball for a longer period, without really pushing forward.
65'

Over the bar

Fürth attack again. Itter's cross initially finds no taker, but after the clearance by Preußen, the ball rolls right to the feet of Meyerhöfer's. His powerful shot flies over Schenk's goal.
64'

Fürth more dangerous

Despite being a man down, a lead for the visitors would not be entirely undeserved.

Klaus!

Goalkeeper Schulze collects the ball in his penalty area and acts quickly - he sends a long ball up to Klaus, who shoots with his first touch from the edge of the box. Schenk is alert and tips the ball behind for a corner. The corner comes to nothing.
61'

Kinsombi's half-dozen

Münster is the sixth club for which David Kinsombi has played in the Bundesliga 2 (after Paderborn, Sandhausen, Hamburg, Kiel and Karlsruhe).
58'

Paetow again!

A flick-on from a cross on the right side finds the advanced Paetow. He skilfully controls the ball with his chest, but then slices his right-footed shot wide.
56'

Too selfless

Paetow plays a nice one-two with Amenyido, before making his way almost inside the six-yard box, but tires to play it across again. A shot would probably have been the better option, especially as the referee wouldn't have had to blow for offside then.
55'

Frenkert's streak ends

He hadn't missed a minute in the first half of the season, but is now substituted for the first time. His ironman streak would have ended next week anyway, as Frenkert received his fifth yellow card today.
52'

Are Fürth playing for a draw?

Goalkeeper Schulze is taking his time placing the ball for a free kick from his own half. The home fans are not particularly pleased with this.
52'

Blocked

Srbeny tries again from distance after a one-two with Klaus, but this time a defender's leg gets in the way.
50'

First attempt in the second half

Now the substitute Srbeny gets on the ball for the first time and he immediately takes a shot! His right-footed effort goes wide of the left post.
49'

Quiet start

Currently, neither team is managing to get into the final third, both defences are doing well.
47'

Klaus brought down again

Ter Horst tries to play the ball but also catches Klaus. Counter-attack thwarted, yellow card accepted.
46'

We're back underway!

Spielvereinigung kicks off the second half. Preußen coach Sascha Hildmann brings fresh legs to the midfield with Bazzoli and Preißinger. For the visitors, Schulze replaces Körber in goal for Fürth, and Srbeny comes on up front in place of Futkeu.

Half-time: Münster 1-1 Fürth

In an intense first half, Münster took the lead through Mees' header. Fürth equalised from a free-kick which Gießelmann got on the end of, but shortly after had to continue with a man down following Asta's sending-off. Despite being a player short, the visitors remained brave, with both teams playing with attacking intent.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
According to the xG values, the away team should actually be leading. However, it's worth noting that Preußen were offside for two of their chances, which isn't reflected in the statistics.

Sending-off

Asta could already sense it after his challenge on Frenkert.
38'

No end product

Paetow is the man for the long throw-ins. First he delivers one dangerously from the left, then from the right to the far post, but as so often this game, the visitors manage to clear.
36'

Right idea

Hrogta once again demonstrates vision and tries to send Klaus through, who is making a run into the right side of the penalty area. Paetow intercepts the pass.
35'

Tempo interrupted

The game is underway again, but due to the many interruptions, there has been little in the way of actual play in the last few minutes. Preußen manage to counter-attack, but Fürth's defence is alert.
32'

Down to 10!

Now it's raining yellow cards - this time Asta steps on Frenkert's foot. The consequence? A second yellow and thus a red card!
31'

Yellow for both

Hendrix pushes Klaus and catches him on the footto prevent an advance. On the other side, Futkeu sees the yellow card for dissent.
28'

The Cloverleaves equalise!

Fürth seem to have shown Preußen how it's done - the visitors have a free-kick from a similar position, and they execute it better than the home side. Klaus delivers it sharply to the near post, where Gießelmann comes rushing in and slots it home whilst falling, just like Mees did earlier, but this time with his left foot instead of his head.

Kirkeskov takes another beautiful free kick, a Preußen player flicks it on to Amenyido, who is completely unmarked on the left side of the penalty area and slots it in with the inside of his right foot - but Winter signals for offside. The ball finds its way to Bansé, who takes a low shot from the left side outside the penalty area. His left-footed effort rolls about two metres wide of Schenk's goal.

Even

In the last few minutes, Preußen haven't managed to get in front of the opposition's goal. The match seems quite balanced. Both teams are making small errors in their build-up play here and there.
17'

Futkeu!

Hrgota, standing on the right touchline, spots Futkeu making a run and plays a brilliant ball into his path. The striker attempts to take the ball past the keeper, but ends up playing it a good few yards wide of the goal.

Fürth concede early again

Already the seventh goal conceded in the opening 15 minutes for Fürth. Only Karlsruhe are more vulnerable in the first 15 minutes of play.
11'

Münster take the lead!

Preußen move quickly on the counter. Makridis shifts the play well to the right side, but Fürth manage to clear - though not well enough. Németh lays it off to ter Horst, who keeps his head up and delivers a precise cross into the penalty area to Mees. His header finds the right corner, leaving Körber with no chance. The goal was checked for offside on Mees, but it stands.

Schenk saves!

Another Fürth player is fouled, Klaus sets up the ball centrally in front of the goal from over 20 metres out - and tries a direct shot! Schenk is equal to the effort.
7'

First booking on the other side

Frenkert doesn't let go of Futkeu in a challenge and sees yellow.
6'

First close call!

The fouled player delivers the resulting free-kick sharply in front of goal, and once again, Körber has to use his fists to clear the danger. It falls to the hosts on the rebound, but the ball goes narrowly wide of the right post, and referee Winter signals for offside.
4'

First yellow card straight away

Asta goes in too aggressively against Kirkeskov. Referee Winter immediately sets a precedent and cautions the Fürth defender.
3'

Continuing on the front foot

Shortly after, the first corner follows. Kirkeskov delivers it quite high into the penalty area. On the second attempt, Körber has to intervene for the first time to punch away a cross from the right.
2'

Münster in possession

The hosts have maintained possession since kick-off. Frenkert attempts a chip over the visitors' defence from the centre circle, but they manage to clear it for a throw-in.

Kinsombi in Preußen's squad

Münster's only winter signing so far, David Kinsombi, only signed on Thursday and is already in the matchday squad as a substitute today.

Nils Körber between the sticks

The 28-year-old has been in Fürth for a year and is making his competitive debut for the Franconians today. Regular first-choice keeper Nahuel Noll is not yet fit; at the end of 2024, he was replaced twice by Moritz Schulze, and now Körber is getting his first chance. It's his eleventh appearance in the Bundesliga 2 (eight for Osnabrück, two for Rostock).

Returnee Klaus starts

The visitors also make three changes compared to their last match of the first half of the season, including Felix Klaus getting the nod to start. He left Fürth in 2013 after their relegation from the Bundesliga, and today he's back on the pitch for the Cloverleaves for the first time in 4,263 days.

Three changes for Münster

As Niko Koulis is serving a suspension, Simon Scherder makes his first Bundesliga 2 start after five previous substitute appearances. There are two more changes for the Eagles: Andras Németh, who is yet to score, starts up front in place of Hólmbert Aron Friðjónsson, and Jano ter Horst, who missed the last match of 2024 due to suspension, is back in the line-up (replacing Yassine Bouchama).

Greuther Fürth starting XI

Körber - Dietz, Jung, Itter - Asta, Bansé, Meyerhöfer, Gießelmann - Hrgota, Klaus - Futkeu

Preußen Münster starting XI

Schenk - Scherder, Paetow, Frenkert - ter Horst, Hendrix, Mees, Kirkeskov - Amenyido, Makridis - Németh

Sascha Hildmann on facing Fürth

"We have made great use of the mid-season preparations, we had the best conditions at the training camp and were able to prepare for everything that's coming. We want to act boldly, engage in many tackles and cause problems for Greuther Fürth."

Jan Siewert on facing Münster

"We've started the new year well, got off to a good start, and had some intense preparation games. It's about us as a team having this aura of wanting to win every match and also reaching our maximum – because only then can the players be collectively ready to win."

Easy pickings

Münster's top scorer, Joshua Mees, has scored more goals against Fürth (four) than any other club in the Bundesliga 2.

A brief history

These clubs faced each other for the very first time in a competitive match in the first half of the season. Fürth won 3-1, celebrating their biggest home victory of the season so far.
