Game, set and match!

Mbabu wins a corner as Augsburg go in search of a late leveller. Dahmen goes up for it, but Maier's delivery doesn't even clear the first post. It's headed out to Marmoush, who gets the better of Pedersen before racing in on the empty goal and stroking in Frankfurt's third goal of the half.

Frankfurt changes

Smolčić is on to shore up the Frankfurt defence. Teenaged striker Nacho Ferri also enters the fray for the final minute or so. Buta and Götze head off, after making a real difference in the second half. Eintracht might still be behind but for their efforts.
85'

Chance not taken!

Augsburg are guilty of sending too many players forward as Knauff tears away on the break. He rounds Dahmen before squaring a pass into the six-yard box, but Mbabu is able to clear in front of Marmoush.
84'

Deflected!

Frankfurt don't deal with a ball into the area. Pfeiffer takes it on, turning and shooting over via a deflection. Maier's deep corner is picked off, though.
81'

Double change

Augsburg need a spark. Can the two-goal Sven Michel provide it? Tim Breithaupt's also on for Thorup's men.

They've certainly had the better openings, according to xG. Larsson and Knauff are on to give the visitors something else to think about...

Frankfurt probing

Götze finds the rampaging Buta in acres of space on the right. He asks the question with a nicely weighted cross, but the white shirts get in the way. It's been one-way traffic since the break...

Like-for-like change

Nkounkou, who has fallen out of favour in recent weeks, replaces Max at left-back.

Tenth time lucky

Ekitiké marks his 10th Bundesliga outing with his first goal since making the loan move from PSG on 1 February.

Free header!

Chaïbi curls a free-kick towards the six-yard box. Dina Ebimbé is completely unmarked, but heads off target. He did not expect that to get through.

Change in system

Thorup sacrifices a forward in Tietz for defender Pfeiffer. He needs to stem this tide, and fast.

Chance!

What a turnaround!

The equaliser was all about the vision of Götze in the build-up. This one's about Marmoush. He turns away and strides forward before feeding Ekitiké. The PSG loanee looks to have overplayed it as Augsburg get a couple of blocks in, but he recovers possession, dances into a central position and sneaks a low finish into the bottom corner from 18 yards. Lovely way to open his Bundesliga account!

Eintracht move the ball quickly towards the right-hand flank. Dina Ebimbé and Buta exchange passes, and the cross is an absolute peach for Chaïbi to side-foot past Dahmen from close range. Game on!

Frankfurt hoodwink the Augsburg defence with a free-kick from the right. It's cut back across the area and dummied by Götze, but Buta's goal-bound strike is blocked.

Wide!

Dina Ebimbé crosses for Max, who opts to touch the ball back rather than take on the shot himself. It's awkward for Marmoush - he sends a controlled volley spinning past the upright.

Slick play

Marmoush glides towards the edge of the area, before slipping a pass into the penalty box for Buta. He tries to take it in his stride, but a defender gets a crucial block in to stop the former Portugal youth international from going one-on-one with Dahmen.

That really was a fine finish from Vargas! The strike - his third in the Bundesliga this season - had a goal probability of just 11 percent.

Close!

Augsburg attack up the right again with Vargas. He lays it off into the path of Engels, whose back-post delivery has just too much on it for Tietz. An inch or two taller, and he'd have surely turned that in.

Nice idea

Maier and Engels play a short-corner routine. The ball's eventually whipped in towards the near post, where Frankfurt loanee Jakić heads over, before the whistle sounds for an offside.

Chance!

Dahmen spills a fierce hit from Marmoush that skipped up off the wet turf as he went to gather. Ekitiké tries to get on the end of the rebound, but Augsburg smuggle it clear.

How big a goal could this be in the race for Europe? Max is robbed of possession wide on the Frankfurt left and the ball is played to Demirović, who spies the run of Vargas into the box. The Switzerland international wastes no time in shooting, lashing a venomous shot high into the net past Trapp.

Max comes in for Nkounkou on the left, with Skhiri, Götze, Dina Ebimbe and Ekitiké replacing Knauff, Hasebe, Larsson and Bahoya.

Thorup's view on Frankfurt

"Everyone knows what's at stake. We're now on a path where we're closing in on Frankfurt. But Frankfurt are a top team for me, they really should be in Europe every year, as they've shown over the last few years. Individual quality… And let's just say we have to be careful as a team. How should we do it together now? Because we probably wouldn't go man for man, but as a team I think we have a chance of winning the game."
camera-photo

Toppmöller's view on Augsburg

"I think Augsburg will try to stress us early, they’re good at that. It’ll be about finding the right solutions, not necessarily about slow build-up play from the back. We may have to make it rather simple. It’ll be very physical, there’ll be a lot of one-on-ones, a lot of loose balls. We must put in a lot of legwork, win the loose balls and play vertically on Friday."

Bouncing back

Dino Toppmöller's side will be keen to recover from a punishing 3-0 loss at the hands of high-flying Stuttgart last weekend. The hosts are winless in four.

Eagles wary

Frankfurt have been in sixth place in the Bundesliga since Matchday 16 but Augsburg are right on their tails and would take the Eagles' spot if they were to win by at least two goals.
