Ronaldo over

When you need a man to step up...Ronaldo meets a cross in the area and has a header deflected behind. That's the best chance for Portugal in a while.

Heavy going

While Portugal remain on top of the play, worryingly for them the frequency and quality of their chances have notably dried up since the interval.

The Portugal attacker has been a real handful out wide on the left, and he shimmies before crossing the ball in dangerously before it is cleared.
32'

Ronaldo - no!

So close to an opener! The ball is slid through the defence for Ronaldo to meet with a perfectly timed run. He's all alone in front of Staněk but can't guide his shot past the goalkeeper.

A matter of time?

Portugal seem likely to score sooner rather than later with the way this is going.
26'

Eek...

Gaps appear in the Czechia defence and Bruno Fernandes slots the ball across the goalmouth, where Leão slides along the wet turf but can't quite connect when he looked likely to turn it in at the far post.
24'

It has been warmer and clearer in Leipzig than over in Dortmund today, with Portugal and Czech fans contributing to a brilliant atmosphere in the city and now in the stadium.

Watch: All Patrik Schick's Bundesliga goals in 2023/24

Schick scored 13 goals in all competitions as Bayer won the Bundesliga and DFB Cup whilst reaching the UEFA Europa League final. He made 33 appearances, but only 18 starts, not helped by injury.

Bundesliga quintet

Bayern Munich and Portugal star Raphaël Guerreiro is not involved at the finals due to injury, but there is Bundesliga interest in the Czech ranks. Bayer Leverkusen trio Adam Hložek, Patrik Schick and Matěj Kovář, Wolfsburg midfielder Václav Černý and David Jurásek, who spent 2023/24 on loan at Hoffenheim, are all in the squad.

Tale of the tape

Portugal and the Czech Republic have met just five times previously, but three of those games have come in European championships. Portugal have four wins, but the Czechs prevailed 1-0 in the Euro 1996 quarter-final thanks to a legendary chip from Karel Poborský.
